Title: Water making overnight

Will running water freeze?

I am making water an need to make around 2000litres...so that would mean the r/o running over night...now I have made a super duper heated cabinate for the tank and r/o system with it's own thermostat and heater so this I am ok with...but the water feed and waste come from outside...thew outside portions of hose are around 6 meters...the hose is all off the ground at present...

But does anyone have any experience of this?

Whats the L/min  waste output approx ?

Given that the r/o is suffering and just under 2 years old...the waste is about 3.4litres per minute through std garden hose and 1.2litres good water.

Were are expecting over night temps of around -4 to -5 tonight at present it is -1.3 and dropping.

I have had the waste pipe freeze up outside, its a bit like a freezing waterfall effect, but if its any help I think youll be ok if you make sure the waste pipe outlet is underneath  the water level of the drain. Yes keep the waste hose off the ground, is the inlet supply also through std hose ?

Yes std hose for the inlet, pressure in is around 50 psi....

Hmm I meant the outlet should be in/under the water(under the surface) its unusual for a drain to freeze in use.

Dave,

I often fill lovernight and the only problem I have with freezing weather is that when the tank in the van fills then the hose going to the the van port freezes up.

Dave - i make all mine overnight, granted it's only ever got to -2 but the flow is too fast to freeze - where is the waste going ? - if it's down a drain i would just cover it to keep the worst of the cold breeze off it

the only prob you may have if you stop in the middle of the night it will then freeze becuse the water is still.

i always start production before it gets below freezing - same for filling van i do this in the afternoon not in the morning

It's filling a 2000litre tank and the rate of good water a couple of weeks ago when the temps were about 16 degs higher was 72ish litres per hour...so no risk of needing to turn it off over night ;D

Well it's been around -3 all night and the water has been working all night....I should now have enough in the tank to run the 1000 watt tube heater and digistat....so I can really see if my cabinate heats up everything I want to keep warm..
