Title: frozen even with greenhouse heater
Post by: mark mann on November 28, 2010, 03:22:12 pm
hi all

i know theres a few posts but thought id post this as similar but looking to see if there is anything extra i can do..

i had a greenhouse heatwr on frost setting last night and this morning back of just warm and totally thawed inside apart from pipes frozen solid inside the van and the bit of hoses that go under out of the van to the ports (ports frozen also)

is there anything i can do that might help the pipes not getting frozen?
lagging ive heard can only trap the cold in and air circulatation is required to help minimise freeze.

if heater doesnt stop pipes getting frozen is there any point at all in herating the van?? or by doing this would it save the pump??

 ??? ???

Is it a parrafin greenhouse heater? If so, it is not sufficient to heat a van, you need an oil filled radiator which are cheap enough from b & q

its an electric one someone on here reccomended coz the blower on it helps circulate air.

with just bought it 27quid from homebase and  30 quid for an jcb all weather extension for safety.

you think oil filled better? and if so saw some reviews on the 20quid ones which werent so good? also are the heaters enough to stop pipe freezing as well or do you have to leave them on high rather than frost setting when its this cold??

ps thanks for your reply.  ;)

Makro are doing DeLongi frost stat protection oil filled rads for £29 plus the vat. they are 1.5kw.
I used one for the first time last night on frost protection, and it seems to be working well. Keeps the van at a constant 5 degrees.

Do you have your van insulated at all?
