I'm not in the UK yet but found this online water quality checker:
http://www.stwater.co.uk/server.php?show=nav.5635
I know I will have to check the water properly when I'm back but is that site reliable at all. Here are the results for my post code.

From that it looks like I will need to filter the water right?

Normally just use a PPM figure from a TDS Meter for water hardness, eg. the harder the water the higher the PPM.
The water in that area is stated as Moderately Hard so ideally use an RO system with DI to filter the water.
Also water quality can vary throughout the year so that info you have may not be entirely accurate.

The link does not work, where abouts are you going to be? I am on severn trent in Derby and yes I need a R/O, Also the same over in Ashbourne,But the ppm is lower there. Do not know if Bakewell is severn trent, But I believe a bloke on here uses DI only as the ppm is low enough.
