Title: It cant be right can it? Ford Transit exhaust.
Post by: geefree on November 27, 2010, 06:09:22 pm
Hi,

i have a hole in my front downpipe exhaust,.. the pipe goes from the engine and joins just under my drivers seat,

Just had a quote from Andrew Page, at £437.00

Surely that cant be right can it?

Told that to the guy who quoted , he said it has a catalyst converter on it,

but for just the front pipe it seems ridiculous

Anyone own a transit and had the same problem or have i been mis-quoted
?

Thanks.

I would phone around exhaust centres, seems very pricey for a down pipe, and I can't see why a cat would be fitted to it either, maybe he has quoted a full system

Sounds about the right price for a fully fitted exhaust. Downpipe only no way.

It all depends where its blowing from but you might have it welded thats what I have done before to some of my vehicles and they pass the mot without any problems. And a mot bloke advise me to use this putty like stuff to mend exhausts.

Thats a rip off mate iv not long since had a full system fitted to my fiat doblo for £300 from a garage. Thats was for everything including the cat. If i was you id get a small piece of scafold pipe get it cut in half and get a jubilee clip around it also as it isnt to bad. Let me know how you get on mate but dont pay that much for it

Around 4-5 month ago my exhaust went on a 2002 scudo, after shopping around for 2 days the cheapest I could find was £600, couldn't justify it on such an old van so part x it on a new vivaro.

most transits iv seen have the bolted to the flange of the front pipe then connects to the cat

the front pipe starts on the passanger side then continues across to the drivers side whith a flexi pipe covered in mesh wire

then points back to a two box sinencer then to the tail pipe one silence

take it to a fast fit exhaust center they willtell you

you dont have to get them to fit it

Yesterday morning went out in the cold and fired up my VW transporter T4 and there was exhaust smoke blowing out from underneath the van by the drivers door. I managed to drive it to the garage a few miles away, put it up on the ramp and the mechanic said there was a hole in the cat front down pipe, as soon as he said cat I thought £500 it cost me £270.00 in the end. I then went and canvassed the two businesses next door with dirty windows and cleaned their windows this morning and got a gutter clearance and conservatory clean out of it as well, result.  :D

Got quoted £450 for a Peugeot Expert 2005 complete exhaust system ..

Got one for £200 from euroflo or euroflow in the end. Bit tinny but does the job.

On a diesel the cat wont affet your emissions for the mot , on the transit forum they all decat anyway to save fuel /increase power , along with remving the egr valve.
