Had my first noise complaint about the truckmount today, machine had been on for about 5 hours and the next door neighbour lost it. Sarah handled it a little bit more professionally than I did ( I didn't know it was going on, couldn't hear anything over the noise :) ), I got to meet him 5 minutes later though ::). Anyone else had any problems or is it just me :-\

once in 3 years, just a busy body though. said his house was shaking rather than complaining about the noise, told him to get a builder to look at it especially as he was 4 or so doors down and the house i was working on was fine. dint say much else just, he walked off.

Not only did we have the complaint about the truckmount today, we had the Espacher heater on last night and my neighbour got all touchy about that.....couldnt hear it from inside my house though....some people just love to moan ::)

I was thinking it couldn't happen that often, and this bloke looked a right tw4t anyway, gave the people over the road something to laugh about anyway. Let's hope that's my quota for a few years then.
Only the Eberspacher thing to worry about now then, 2 complaints in 2 days about that lol. Shame really because the machine has never run so well and quietly optimistic about things.

You can get a silencer that fits into the exhaust pipe of the eberspacher.

Had maybe 5 or 6 over the last 6 years but not much you can do about it really, Normally find its the ones with nothing better to do than have a moan :-X

You're right Gary, this bloke didn't have anything better to do, he'd wound himself up to a stuper before he came round.
I still maintain it was an accident I stood on his foot, after a few hours of cleaning a 3 piece suite and 3 bedroom house he was lucky that's all I stood on. Felt bad for the customer though, he has to live there, soured the day a bit!

Never had any complaints, just a few twitchy curtains. I don't work in many streets with terraced or closely-packed houses so am normally far enough from neighbors windows not to be too intrusive.
Is your TM engine water or air cooled Gary? I think air cooled engines make more noise don't they? Mine's water cooled and only runs up to 3000rpm most jobs, maybe that's the difference?

I had a neighbour of our customer approach me today and ask what we were doing as he could only see the hoses, I explained the equipment and the purpose and he aked me for a handful of cards - alway take an opportunity to hand out a card

Get a SteamGenie - very quiet - just sounds like a petrol mower lol :)

I used to clean trains in London at night where locals and health & safety types were always on my case . Can´t you put the exhaust thru the floor and shut the doors? Amazing how much noise it stops and good for getting rid of lazy staff!

Exhaust through the floor is good, but can't be done on all vans (my transit for example, due to structural beam running underneath floor pan)
Not practical to run a TM with the doors shut, the machine needs air for cooling, even more important on air cooled engines

Is there not a chance of someone nicking something out of the back of your van or "tampering" with your stuff if you leave the van doors open?
Everyone is now going to say "oh but we only work in good upmarket area's where Mr and Mrs Farquhar wouldn't get thier hands dirty with a commoners tools" wat wat wat...

Is there not a chance of someone nicking something out of the back of your van or "tampering" with your stuff if you leave the van doors open?
I would like to see SOMEBODY walk off with ours - it took 3 to get it in lol

We've never had anything taken out the back of the van (touchwood) in the whole time we've been running truckmounts, Had a sat-nav nicked from the front but that was us been stupid and not locking the front cabin although we were only work 15ft away from the van >:(
What truckmount do you have Gary as there are a couple of ways of reducing the noise levels ;)

dont mean nicking the actual truckmount itself, but other bits and bobs like tools, chems etc and also, kids/chavs turnings numptys, pulling out soltion hose etc.

I think maybe 1 in 200 jobs I do I'm worried about scum bags messing with my stuff. I don't do much in town centres and "affordable" housing areas, partly due to the market I aim for and partly because my area is as much rural as it is urban. Plenty of sleepy little villages in which to destroy the peace & quiet :D

Ummm sorry about that :-[, Do you have your rubber exhaust running infront of the machine still? We bought some longer length exhaust pipe and re-routed it to come out the oposite side of the van (furthest away from the house), This worked very well, Also if your van is ply-lined get some insulation behind it and also carpet the wall and floor, Makes a huge difference as it reduces the "boooming" of the machine :D
I also have a couple of tips to get abit more heat out of it if your interested, Send me a PM if you fancy ;)
