is it ok to add bank account details on a web sites for people to pay on there online banking like sort code and account number
-
One idea might be to put it on as a picture, rather than as text. That way, any automatic programs searching for things that look like bank details will miss them.
That said, I avoid it completely on mine and just put the details on my payment envelopes.

I can make them into a picture if you need mate.

its on mine! It does not worry me in the least. Bank details are on many many websites and bills sent through the post i.e credit card firms, water firms etc.

didnt jeremy clarkson publish his bank details to prove no one can defraud him with his sort code and account number, but they did?

They did. IIRC, someone made a payment of £500 from his account to a charity, but in a way such that apparently he could have got the bank to refund his money as they were at fault. However, Jezza didn't reclaim the cash as he said he didn't deserve it back after making such a daft statement in print.
Something like that, anyway.

Or more like this perhaps...

I think it pretty safe......some of you are in the dark ages, like some old granny who thinks its better to keep her money in a biscuit tin in the kitchen because she does not trust banks. Then she gets robbed by some crack addict while his bird distracts her!!! Get into the 21st century people ;D
-
How about using something like PayPal instead? You can either just give your paypal email address or better still add a PayPal button to your site. The downside is that you have to pay a small amount in fees for each transaction, but if you are worried about making your bank details public it could be a good alternative...?

Had my Bank Account and sort code on my website about 2 years ago so people could pay me direct. Came to transfer wages from business account, to current account at the end of the month and someone had paid for a holiday and drawn over 2K from my account, got money back straight away when i reported it to the fraud team, but was recommended to take details off my website asap they reckon thats how the scam happened, The scammers know your name and can find your address etc:
-
Should the wrong kind of person stumble across your site they COULD defraud you of money with whays on there.
So why would you want to risk it when there's other proven safer methods?
-
must be why my bank accounts always empty then!!! some bugger keeps robbing me :o

SOME POOR OLD BLOKE ON LOCAL NEWS THIS WEEK USED TO KEEP HIS LIFE SAVINGS UNDER HIS BED THEN TAKE IT TO WORK WITH HIM EVERYDAY. ONLY PROBLEM IS THIS WEEK HE LEFT IT ON THE ROOF OF HIS CAR!... £88000 :o THEY FOUND THE BAG LATER THAT DAY EMPTY..POOR OLD BOY WILL PROBABLY HAVE A HEART ATTACK OVER THIS.

i feel for the guy, but come on, how daft is that!

here in Holland we have little machines that when you enter your internet account you put in your account number and a digit code on the back of the card...then you are given a another number...
You then have to put your card into a handheld card reader, put in your pin then the code that the website gave your...once this is done you are presented with another number...this has to be entered into the website as your verification ...
Do you have those in the U.K? been using internet banking to take payments for 4 years and not a single problem to date(fingers crossed).

BARCLAYS GIVE THOSE TO CUSTOMERS FOR INTERNET BANKING, NOT SURE ABOUT THE OTHER BANKS?
