Title: Emptying hose of water
Post by: LBWCS on November 26, 2010, 10:07:00 am
Got l5 setup this week and it's awsome!my best way to stop my system freezing up is if there is no water to freeze, it can't! What is the best way people find to make sure all hoses are empty of water?I turned valve off and left my pump on for a couple of minutes but this morning there's still water in them that froze.what us the best way to drain all hoses of water?

We blow our hoses out with an air compressor, and as Blue Monkey stated:

u will never get it all out

bring in side if you can,  or just tip out water,  or cover with something that will keep it warm

Hi Rhine

Can you explain, if you've got a hot water heater when you turn it on to use in the morning doesn't it melt the ice thats formed overnight in your out let hose, hose reel and water fed pole's?

Or am I missing something?

Simon

in theory it should, but doesnt work that way,  as if it got a blcked pipe then u have to melt around it or other wise it takes ages

When there's a blockage due to ice the vari flow
cuts the flow off as it thinks it has a dead
end.and also the l5 senses there is no flow so that also cuts out

I brought my pole and hosereel in last night, but still had a frozen solid pump.
Took 20 minutes of pouring hot water on it to get it moving again.

I knackered my pressure washer by leaving it in an unheated garage.
It must have had some water left in it and the frost split a plastic piece, where the water comes out of the pump.
I take the feed  hose off the back of the reel, pull a couple of meters of hose off the reel itself, and insert a male rectus fitting into the end. it then drains itself by syphoning. The pump and Varistream are housed in their own box, I just bring this into the coservatory. And you have reminded me to go and do it before it gets dark.

I bring my hose and reel in and have a quick release connector before my pump and undo it,put one end in a can of anti freeze, turn my pump on and my pipes don't freeze. Turn your tank valve off too.

I just take off all my hoses and drain them only takes a few minutes. In the morning i connect the hoses back up and use hot water from the L5 over anything that's froze works so far  ::) 2 yrs
The hose reels just comes in over night, simple  8)
The brush and hose gets abit froze sometimes but i dunk it in a bucket of hot water
don't take long , 1 or 2 mins and away i go.
