How many of you use Winter Tyres on your cars and vans?
Whilst living in Bulgaria, I noticed during my first winter, lots of cars having no problem driving around on snowy and icy roads, reason being they ALL had winter tyres fitted to all four wheels!
So when you are all moaning on about people stopping on snow and ice, remember it would be better to fit winter tyres now and avoid many of the problems caused by using summer or all season tyres.
However after phoning all the local tyre dealers in Crawley, non of them carried any stock >:(
Both of my vans are fitted with Snow Tyres, but the front two on one van are wearing thin, hopefully we will find replacements today.
Then I need to find some for the car......................

in no other country do they blast grit everywhere for the public so they can use the wrong tyres for the conditions.

Do you just pay for a fitter to remove summer tyres and re-fit with winter tyres, then keep them in shed till spring, Then pay them to remove winter ones and re-fit summer ones? If so how much does this fitting cost?
-
Guess what.... Its a mod, and could cost you more in insurance!! http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/260503/winter_tyre_ko_as_big_freeze_hits.html

They won't do that they tell me its illegal to fit a "loose" tyre. I bought some tyres for my taxi from Costco but there was a long queue in the fitting bay so I took them away intending to get them fitted elsewhere.
I must have gone to a half a dozen different places to get them fitted and they all said the same thing. They can't fit loose tyres its illegal. In the end I had to take them back to Costco and show them my bill and they fitted them.
I was given two different reasons, one said it was European law and the other was sort of the same but said it was because of the cowboys selling dangerous part worn tyres.
So you can do it but you have to buy the wheels as well, which aren't as expensive as you might think.

Total madness!!! How can they do this I really HATE insurance
Companies. They would be first against the wall a bunch
Of crims

Getting my fitted friday...the garage remove the normal tyres...place them into their tyre hotel and come spring re-fit them and store the winter tyres until winter...as long as I get my van serviced/mot'd with them..this service is not charged...ok I know you get nothing for nothing but been using this garage for 5 years now and like their family approach to business.
Having read up on winter tyres...decided to take the plunge...
