Title: going window cleaning full time
Post by: e newlands on November 24, 2010, 04:15:56 pm
last day today in my full time job
took the chance and gone for it jacked up
been working w/ends up til now part time cleaning windows gutter cleans etc
got 25000 leaflets done so some hardcore leaflet drops between now and new year

this must be the worst time of year to start a new business
looking foward to spending more quality time with the family
theres more in life than constantly working

Well done and good luck!

nothing wrong starting out this time of year - you'll get the worst of the weather so if you can hack it the rest of the year is a breeze.

should get lots of custy's as well, now the summer brigade have packed up until march

Do not under price yourself  8)  and ask them do they want to sign a contract, contracts are worth money and easier to sign up as you go along. Some will some won't, all the best ! At least you use your proper name.  :)

have you got much work at the moment?

you say your going to leaflet drop, but if you need the work you should be knocking on doors instead,iv only been going for just over a year now and so many times iv had people ask me if il do there windows and i have dropped a leaflet through there door few months back so they dont work anywhere near as good as door knocking,

personally i found that posh estates are harder to get new work as it seems window cleaners target these areas for a nice place to work so dont rule out the cheaper parts of town, this could help you build your round quicker, just my opinion tho

good luck mate

i agree with jackel,  try knocking council,  as all the bungys and posh houses get knocked a lot near me

Good luck to you, if you need help/advice for larger jobs just let me know and I will help you out wherever I can.
When dropping leaflets, go back the same day and knock on the door, you will get lots more work this way.

thanks for the advice
up to now ive only dropped leaflets never followed up knocking

have managed to get  regular 72 custies  ranging for 4 to 6 weekly and a few one offs this way these were picked up over a period of about a year done this by dropping  around 150-200 leaflets a week after work as well as this numerous gutter cleans conservatories and a few pathways and drives which i subbed out
who ive up to now done at the weekends

just dropping has seemed to work if it doesnt continue to get me work ill start knocking

im aiming at looking at getting a regular 300 customer base in 6 months so need another 230 or so

ie 50 a week over a 6 week cleaning period

As someone said, if you can handle this weather then the rest will be easier.

I wouldn't agree with contracts. You're almost certain to put them off if you mention them! Might be something to consider in the future but at the moment you can't afford a luxury that might put them off. It wouldn't be worth the paper it's written on anyway.

Polite, friendly & professional. ;)

Best of luck

spot on personally i wouldnt scare of work with contracts yet cos you need work but defo look in to contracts  later.

70 customers out of leaflets is really nice personally i prefer doorknocking
if you need 230 more customers i guarantee you could get 10 per day or 50 per week doorknocking not sure about leaflets thou.

good luck to matey,i made the leap six weeks ago-people said that it was the wrong time etc-stuff em get wrapped up get some decent gloves(and some spare when there wet)and go for it be cheerfull and smile even when its bloody freezing, speak to people as you work i gain loads of work that way-its suprising even with all the leaflet drops etc that some people don't have a windie or are looking for one-or know someone who wants one,if you clean near schools-clean them at school pick up time/maybe a sign outside the house if you don't have a van, basicly what works for me is get noticed/use your round to get noticed at certain times of day/speak to everyone you see-sell yourself.its not instant work but it will come-oh packing the job in-best thing i ever did should have done this years ago
