Does your pole spin when extended and do the clamps not shut when the pole is collapsed? No more thread left to tighten the bolts? My Smax has been driving me nuts for a couple of months, I wrongly thought the pole shafts had come to the end of their life after six months of use.
If yours is the same as mine - have a close look at the clamp levers, I did and found the plastic had worn a fair bit especially on the levers and the plastic barrel nut. I've temporarily swopped the less worn levers and nuts from the lowest sections and put them on the top two sections - brilliant all working fine again whilst new parts arrive in the post.

I've had one section do this, one email to gardiners asking what the problem was and I had replacement barrel nuts arrive in the post the next morning. For free!
Even though it hasn't happened to me since then, I'm gonna have a look to see where I can get some metal barrelnuts.

Mine does this but I thought it was just wear on the pole. It's now basically tapered.
