Your area is not in your profile so it's not possible to give an answer because there's no way of knowing if you are in a hard or soft water area. Also, this would make a difference regarding whether or not you need an RO or just DI resin only. I suggest that you very first outlay should be a TDS meter (usually about £12-£25) to determine the hardness of the water. Also, whether or not you are on a water meter would be a factor.
So post again please with:-
1) TDS of water
2) State if on a meter
3) If on a meter state the approx cost per meter (1,000 litres).
The answers you supply will give rise to more questions but there's no point in answering them until you answer 1 - 3 above.
Sorry can't be more help just yet.

hi thanks for reply firstley im on water meter .2 the tds is 098 and im in a soft water area

With that you don't really want a RO because of the waste water on meter and you can get away with just a DI vessel but you will get through maybe a half a dozen bags of resin in a year at about £70 a bag.
So if you budget on about ten pounds a week as a ball park figure that will probably be close allowing that you have to buy the water.
Others will probably be able to refine that costing but I would say its a fairy good starting figure.
Don't skimp on buying a small DI vessel because it will hold less resin and you will be changing it more often, which gets to be a drag.
Talk to Alex Gardener, he can advise you better than me on resin usage. He has figures.

Alex Gardiner has a cacalator on his website

buy 2 9 litre resins from gardiners they are in the sale section, this will make resin last longer

where u based dave

Ignor the resin calculator, it doesn't factor twin vessels or differing resin qualities between brands!
Your tap TDS is the same as mine, I run a 400ltr van mount & use only 2 (TWO) bags of resin per year!
I would buy 2 x 11ltr DI vessels, use Tulsion resin & have your DI's on the van to pump through- known as "purifying on demand" ;)

I think we ought to explain why two vessels are better than one. The resin in the first vessel does all the work initially but as the resin gets exhausted the tds rises above the level where its too high to clean windows but is still much lower than your tap water. The resin in the second vessel takes out the remaining tds
When the resin in the second vessel starts to wear out and the tds starts to rise you stop and change the resin in the first vessel and reverse the flow so the second vessel become the first.
That way you get all the goodness out of your resin. There is still plenty of life left in the resin even though its delivering 5 tds.

Good point Vince.
Simply put- instead of throwing away resin that is starting to rise in tds, you use it to pre-filter a new vessel. Then you just keep this cycle going with the two vessels. ;)

whats the best (cheapest)way go if you are in a hard water area like me do you have to have ro system aswell as di
-
yes you will need an ro and di if you are in a hard water area. there are a few ro's but it depends on your budget as to what you get, the main difference it the production rates of them
-
per year i pay about £100 on filters and a £70 bag of resin has lasted me 3 yrs and ive still got half left.
i find the taps on my hoses go every 3months there about £10 each x2
so per month i would say about £11 per month to run, thats in a soft water area and a merlin filter, and 2 man set up.
