Hi,on my 1st job ths morning I was cleaning a white 3 pc cotton suite. When I started to clean the front edge of the one of the cushions blue ink started to appear through the material.I quickly took the cover off to investigate to find the foam had been numbered with blue marker pen.I then advised the customer I couldnt clean the cushions.

You should be checking for this prior to cleaning.
If found you can either remove the covers and clean or cover the ink with a waterproof barrier and then clean.
No need to refuse to clean.

Ian,are you saying you remove every cushion cover prior to cleaning ?

Jeff, to be honest I steer clear of furniture as much as possible and as such am far from the most experienced one here.
If cushions are removeable then I do tend to take the covers off to check for ink. This is due to paranoia developed during the NCCA training course where the horrors of just such ink were delved into.
I guess that you could get away with not doing so as long as moisture kept to a minimum.
If however you come accross ink as you did then you could have continued to clean as mentioned in my last post.

Just put a bin liner between foam and cover then clean...hey presto...simples!!
