I am thinking about doing an IPAF training course for cherry pickers - cost £220 inc vat so not a massive amount and an extra string to the bow. I don't have any work that requires it yet but if any larger jobs come along that require it then I will already have it in place. A question to anyone that has done this training, Did you find it beneficial to your business in that you have managed to gain more work from it? There is a lot of commercial property where I live so potentially work there doing gutter cleans, awkward windows etc?

Hello Terry,
Just out of interest, I am considering doing a similar course in the new year!
Is for both cherry pickers and mewp(scissor lifts)?
Kind regards. :)

Out of the half a dozen or so jobs we do from cherrypickers, only one required that I had an IPAF ticket in order to be allowed to do the work "Wessex Water", it's not a legal requirement otherwise you'd not be able to hire the access machines unless you held a ticket.
It does give you more confidence to use the machine so I guess it helps you to finish the job on schedule, I would recommend waiting until you have a job booked that requires you using a picker then booking to do the course a few days before

I would say it is worth it.
Although I compete with Seerclean and they have their own cherry picker, so its hard to compete!

Hi Simon, How's it going? I see you've just bought a gutter vacuum, should keep you busy. Thanks for your reply, I just think that if I do the training beforehand then I can confidently pitch for any jobs that require one instead of rushing to do a training course at the last minute. It might be worth it or it might not ???

im sure you do have to have a ticket - even if not asked, its your responsibility, if something went wrong the h & s would have a field day if no ticket, im sure someone will say differant but thats how i see it

Hi Marc.
Hope business is picking up for you, I'm sure it wont be long before your books are full ;)
Yes just got my Vac from Tech Clean minus a 110v plug :'( just sourcing my poles now and I'll be ready to work, got a few jobs to use it on during Nov-Dec kind of missed the boat really and should have been set to go at the start of the Autumn.
I did my IPAF in Cardiff but I believe Gloucester also run courses! the truck mounts seem to be the most versatile for window cleaning a lot of the cherrypicker work in Bristol goes to one firm because they have their own truckmounted platforms so can afford to price their work cheaper than other Bristol window cleaners " usually" ;)

Which category of traing are you doing?
Smart Platforms does three categories in 1 day at only 300 pounds!
Nice centre and good equipment for training - based in Hemel Hempstead

I would of though now and onwards is the best time to get gutters cleared, Whats the point on clearing them at the start of Autumn when leaves are still falling.

I meant it would have been better to have sourced my vac and been ready to work at the start of Autumn rather than rushing to get a system togeather now.
Anyway we get asked to do gutter cleans throughout the year but have always worked from ladders cherrypickers and a few times rope access or harness and latch way systems ;)

Two local cherrypicker jobs we do.

What I liked best with Smart, was the fact that they have some dedicated machines for training purposes. They don't go out on hire, so they are clean and clear to read instructions etc.
Other courses I have been on in the past use any old machines and they are often covered in paint, cement etc

STP have three truckmounts that they keep busy! they also hire them out on a day rate with one of their WC/Operators

Hi Richy,
Bad news, by the end of next week we hope to have another 23m spider lift on our books!
Seriously though, I will sort you out a discount if you need a cherry picker for anything local. We hire them out to a couple of local cleaning firms. And one national window cleaning contractor in particular, both with and without operators.
Cheers,
Huw

you must be busy!
Do you do much in Cardiff?
You need extra training for a spider lift though dont you?
I only have my liscence for cherry pickers and scissors.
Did you clean the gutters of a school in Cardiff recently?
