for £60 i could leave that on all night, and i wouldnt need to insulate my van. or i was thinking of a stand up office type one

dont your van have a heater on it then lol ;D ;D ;D
-
its ok useing one of those heaters but you only get around 100 hours running time which is around £30 a bottle the blue ones :(
-
i dont get it why would you put one in ya van for? dont vans have heaters on them?? ???
-
Isnt that a bit risky? they wack out some heat them
-
some one said it a while ago they thought ant french was a fake/jokey/alias person. the more post i read of his i think he may be another barry mallet :-\
-
well theyres 3 settings on the cab one anyway, so im thinking lowest all night from say 12am - 8am (8hrs) not too sure how long that will last, but theyre £20 to refill my 6 or 7kg calor propane bottles.
but it will save me bringing in 2 minging heavy reels for 2 months and 3 poles, plus protect the filters and pipes. i might lag them too.
just priced up 10 x of 35mm celotex boards for £25. but not too sure if that will work? as i cant totally seal the van especially the floor. might be a waste of time and money?
i was thinking of removing the tank and inserting some boards underneath, but its the pipes that freeze, the tank just has a layer of ice at the top. so that might not be worth it either?
i was hoping if i do the heater route, that the water in the tank might be a bit warmer and help in preventing the hoses from freezing too?

well after reading the £5 a job every 2 weeks instead of £10 every month, it made me wonder ::)

i was asking a question? why would you want to put that in your van, if it was to catch fire insurance wouldnt pay out also the fact that its prob illegal ::)
im just curious thats all im new to all of this. trying to find out as much as i can. dont ask questions you never get answers do ya!! ;D
-
fair enough, Its to stop water fed pole systems freezing up during winter. I would doubt its illegal though.
-
It may not be illegal but having a naked flamed heater in the van is somewhat risky.
-
That's a nice website you got there Ant - very professional. ;)

With a calor gas heater, don't leave it on all night just put it on for an hour before you go out.

i doubt that would work, i once was there 3 hrs defrosting my pump, pipes, reels b4. used a hairdryer, and about 100 kettles!

what about old school >> parrafin stove or bubble wrap to take the edge off it. tinfoil??? what bout a reptile heat mat? u could use this if it fits inside the tanks, i have simular in my big pond and as long as the water is moving it wont freeze will it, the solar panel can sit on the dash or sumthing during the day while ur out working, just an idea http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Solar-Power-Panel-Water-Pump-Pond-Fountain-New-Version-/270665169548?pt=UK_HomeGarden_Garden_PondsWaterFeatures_UK&hash=item3f04e6ba8c

ant even if it was just the tank freezing have a look at that ebay item again no battery??
-
and as long as the water is moving it wont freeze will it
tell that to the people who used to skate on the Thames :D
-
what if you wrap it with bubble wrap, i kno it is a pain in the arse to keep doing.
sounds silly but warm water belive it or not freezes faster than cold ::)
if i was using wfp system id prob spend out and insulate my van with some of this, it wud take the edge off except summer wud be a sauna http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=polystyrene+sheet&hl=en&aq=f
its solar panel, i got a solar panel one and it goes all night, my pond dont freeze in the area its sat. ;D

insulate the pipes with lagging or proper insulation piping, if possible run system empty, put a thick blanket over everything,
-
have a look in the fishing/camping shops bivvy heater they will probably be safer as designed to use in enclosed areas probably cheaper to run as well

will be too small
if it is that cold that everything freezes then it is too cold to work, it is that simple, unless u can stick ur van in a garage or run a electic heater all night then u have to insulate ur vans roof to help keep the cold out, as most roofs are bare metal the heat just leaves

power inverter? with oil filled heater would need another battery. probably have to charge it every day but my mate has a power inverter in his van and he charges all his drills ect from it even uses it to run the odd power tool.
-
ok insulate the roof with about 4 boards (£12)
as well as a heater, i did think about the camping heater, but they take those small bottles, and i would guess they would last about 2hrs?
my choice would last days?
i was going to drain my system too (pain in the butt btw) helps by doing it when packing up on last job.
last 3 winters it was just 2 rolls of loft insulation wrapped around the merlin and the reels, but the plastic/foil bags eventually rip leaving the insulation wet.
