Title: Hot Water Temperature?
Post by: TC1 on November 18, 2010, 07:30:05 pm
Hi guy's, Finally got my hot water set up today :)  Just wondering what max temp I should clean with without the risk of cracking any glass :'(   I thought I saw on here that it should be no more than 30 degree's above glass temp ??? ???

I must say from what I've cleaned today it is alot faster, but the best thing are lovley warm hose  :) and it is such a doddle to reel in with no kinks which has saved me lots of time today :) :)

Nothing posh, just an L5. I had it about as warm as you wash the dishes with (probably about 20-25 degrees)

I am thinking about two of these for me and partner.
Could one bottle be rigged up to both L5's?
And any chance of a picture of the set up, If you dont want it on here, Maybe Emailed to me, Kharnd@googlemail.com

Would be very appreciated,  :)

blue monkey how do you do that?
Title: Re: Hot Water Temperature?

i have 2 options, i can fill up from my hot tap,  or i can get hot water from a garage near me,  after speaking to gardiners, all they said was it might wear my pump out quicker  and it might wear my brushes out quicker,  it is only  a trial at the mo,   just want the water warm rather than hot,  if i like it, i will box my van in and isulate my van properly

blue monkey do you fill your tank with hot water and then run it through your di while working , or run hot water through your di into your tank on a morning and work that way . can you run hot water through your di or does it use the resin faster

Tony

it is very hard to regulate the heat of water at the brush head, i have a purefreedom hot system which unlike the ionic system can be regulated to any temperature but this only relates to the heat of water when it leaves the system by the time it reaches the brush head many things can vary the temperature dramatically, for instance if using 100 metres of layed hose on frosty ground then the temperature of water will be 80 degrees at the van  but by time it gets to the brush it is lucky to be 30 degrees however if only 50 metres of hose is laid and the rest is on the reel then the water is very hot at brush head and would need temperature turning down, likewise in summer the water doesnt loose much heat in the hose so temperature can be turned down, it takes a bit of getting used to what temperature to set water at but you soon get used to roughly what heat will be lost in the hose.

Yeah, Its the opposite to what you think though, it has to be on the max on the water regulator dial, not min.

Not sure really, haven't really checked. It is however better at cleaning bird & spider poo but the biggest benefit is how much easier the hoses are to handle :)

Thank you for the pics Tony.
Just got your email, and completely forgot I asked you to put some up!

I am thinking of getting two of these or two hotwash systems, Depending on specs really.

Do you have any flu for fumes etc or is it ok? And does the gas last a reasonable amount of time?

Also am wondering how much of a difference it makes on insurance, they always ask me if I carry gas when getting quotes. Must make a difference.

Top setup mate!!
 ;)

I don't have any flu/vent (yet) but I probably will soon, as I clean with the tailgate open most of the time, but if its windy I may have problems keeping the L5 alight, so may have to close the door and don't wanna start falling asleep after every clean ::) Not sure how much gas it uses, but I dont expect to change the gas for quite a while. I haven't informed the insurance company about carrying gas yet, but I am going to be doing this sometime this week and will let you know.

tony following on from the above quote. now that you have been using your l5 for a week, how as your gas consumption been? have you had to change the cylinder yet? and what size where you using?

You saw from the pic then? lol

Not sure how much gas i've used this week, not sure how you check the quantity of gas left in the bottle. I was under the impression it would last alot more than 28 hours :-\

My first 19Kg bottle lasted a month.

Since then I throttled it back and now only use it on conny roofs, gutter jobs and new cleans.

Matt,

Was that using it 5 days a week and with an actual cleaning time of about 3-4 hours?

5 days a week for 5 hours a day I guess and set fairly high but obviously not too high to crack the glass.

Keeping the flame down will help to stretch it out a bit.

tony i was speaking to a work colleague today and he looked at the picture on the tread. he advised that it may be a good idea to have some drop down holes installed since propane gas is heavier than air.  ;)

Do you mean holes in the floor pan by "drop down holes" ??? :o

Nice job Tony - i'm gunna have to track you down and look at it in the flesh!

out of interest can you still operate normally with the unit off - so you just get cold if required

To comply with all the rules regulations and  laws we having today the gas is meant to be carried in a covered container with vent holes in the bottom that allow venting to the outside of the vehicle. Additionally there arent meant to be any alternative ignition sources in the locality of the gas, batteries are ignition sources  ;)

The vehicle is meant to be ventilated as well, that doesnt mean leaving the doors open.

And the gaas bottle secured.

Yea when reading up on all this I thought to myself forget it, I've cleaned in the snow and I find that as long as you keep the water flowing the minibore doesn't freeze up. I'm happy with cold water, it's not ideal, but it's a lot cheaper if you factor everything in. Yea you might make more money because you can work quicker, but on maintenance cleans it's not going to be much quicker.
