I had some Unger ones last winter but they don't last long. They rip too easily especially when collapsing my pole several times a day.
-
They look too big and clumsy to use
-
Hand on heart I reckon those would be next to useless within a month...this gloves thing is a real problem...most wfp'ers want a way to stop black hands and in winter to protect against wet and cold...
Wish I had the answer to this ...
-
i use the gul winter gloves from gardiners.a bit pricey(about 20quid with delivery).they are ok as long as you dont get them wet as their not waterproof.i find them ok and you still have a good feel on the pole and squeegee and no black hands!once their wet though i chuck them back in the van.
i find i only use the gloves for a few hours on cold mornings then i find they slow me up too much.

I have them, they are allright to use, not brilliant, but ok.

what you need is motor bike gloves they are designed to with held low temps. my gloves were ok in temps of -3c and wind chill of -20c. yeh my finger tips went numb now and then but that cant be helped. i suffer with really bad toes tho so any links to footwear would be great ;D

Form B - I agree with you up to a point. I think they are terrific until about 0 dec C. Then they are just too cold, and I switch to Showa 460s. Astoundingly warm and yet not too unwieldy. Also, very easy to get on and off.

Seriously they are fantastic, don't even consider spending £ on any other glove this winter. I only wish I knew about these in January whilst working in -8 degrees.

OK, Form B, ignore my comment about 370's getting too cold at or about zero. Ignore the positives about extra warmth. Ignore the ease of removal and the fact that they aren't too unwieldy.
Everyone else, feel free to be open minded and try Form B's suggestion when it's warmer, and maybe consider if I might know a little when it's colder. I've had 460s on all day in preference to the 377's so I might be mad or right; who can tell?

I do have a tiny bit of experience cleaning windows in the cold. Some might say more experience than you.
Some might even say that, hey if you get these:
http://www.arco.co.uk/products/14G4300/136392/Showa%20377%20Foam%20Coated%20Nitrile%20Gloves
you wont even need to take them off.
Some might also add that when ambient temperature is below zero it is nigh on impossible clean windows at any rate.

Yes, you may have more experience but I'm the one who was wearing them today. Despite my bowing to your astounding knowledge of all things window cleaning, I do know when my hands are warm and when they are cold. Today, in the 377s, they were cold. In the 460s, they were warm and I could work despite the all-knowing guru declaring them "too thick". Despite your knowing everything there is to know about everything, both of those facts remain true.
Unless I'm making it up, of course, as some kind of fiendish plot to rig the market for Showa 460 gloves, available at: http://www.safetysupplies.co.uk/trolleyed/6/18/

I've been using the Showa 377's this week. They are ok but not brilliant for cold weather - once temperatures got to zero my fingers were pretty painful. They get a bit clammy too when the temp creeps up.

Last year a lot of people on here were raving about "Joka Polar" gloves:
http://www.surecleansystems.com/proddetail.asp?prod=jo-polar
I was going to buy some for this winter... Does anyone have any positives or negatives about them?
Thanks,
Andy
-
Got my joka polar gloves, they supposed to keep your hands warm and dry down to minus 44....hmmm
well my hands were wet and cold a couple of days ago, so i used them.. they were brilliant , very arm and totally dry.
they are a little cumbersome until you get used to them, but very warm.

I just use the yellow leather work gloves from toolstation. Cheap warm, hardwearing, OK they get wet and so just keep a couple of spare pairs in the van. Cheap as chips.

is the size 11 ok for average size paws?
-
Yes, although they are the ones i got,and i would say they are a tiny bit big , fingers ends dont quite reach.....
but i dont know how much smaller the size ten is... so stuck with what i had ordered,
I do have short little fingers for a bloke though ;D
-
Right - go and buy five pairs of those wool back rubber fronted yellow and orange work gloves£2 jobbies at Wickes or Band Q or Screwfix.
Then go and buy a pack of 100 polythene gloves like those ones you get at the diesel pumps in some petrol stations.
Put on the polythenes jobbies then the workgloves.
Lovely - and the "inner" protects from the wet and you can take the outer off to write and put them back on.
Change the inners about twice in the day and if the workgloves get too damp just get another dry pair off of the heater outlets in the van.
Works for me after useless "fall apart" sealskins.

Are you wfp or trad mate because these gloves look like they would rip and tear in no time on the pole clamps?

I am a proper window cleaner :D
I do both that is why I only use those.
They may not keep your hands as warm as some others (Vin) but they are tough enough to last (you'll lose them before you rip them) and they are thin enough to wear for trad.
One of my ex-employees "borrows" them from the oil rig he works on, so if they are warm enough for working in the north sea they will be warm enough for cleaning windows.
:)

But i doubt that they can keep your hands warm,
they look like simple rubber gloves,
i have tried all the sealskiz type glove, and none are any good,
the joka is warm , waterproof , but a little bulky , but hey.... i know i would rather have warm hands on those freezing mornings, and put up with a glove that is a little cumbersome.

They are much better than rubber gloves. They last much longer, keep your hands dry and if you need to you can p about with wollies underneath, although I use them in Aberdeen with an alu pole and don't need to.

on YOUTUBE theres a trad guy in salt lake city with what looks like Very good gloves .he has some good videos.im no good at doing links(maybe somebody can link it?) but if you type in / dave barker salt lake city window cleaning / it finds all his cleaning tips videos
hes wearing a golf windshirt , it took me ages + by chance to find a golf windshirt but i can really recommend these ,because not only do they have elasticated cuffs and waist but also they are made of 2layers of very thin material ,no wind gets through them yet you dont sweat in them. these can be very expensive to buy new but on ebay not always. but dont buy the cheapest £10 touch because these are not made of the same breathable material

They are indeed 100% waterproof and so strong that you're unlikely to go through them without some serious effort to do so. Despite this they are thin and give very good feel indeed. If you're going to buy some, I'd suggest two pairs, as the cuff part will eventually get wet and they become a serious pain to get on and off as the cuff dampens your hand on the way in, making it hard to get in properly. Swap and put the damp ones on the van heater.
They don't seem to tear on clamps, certainly not on Gardiners' version of clamps.
460s are warmer, though...
Vin
-
I bought the showa 377 on form b's recommendation and i was happy with them untill it started getting really cold, the tips of my fingers got really numb, so i looked for something else, i didnt like the look of the 460's as they loog a bit bulky and not keep on the complete rubber glove look, so i ordered theses
http://www.arco.co.uk/products/14G2500/50998/Showa%20Thermogrip%20451%20Insulated%20Glove
the fronts are waterproof and have very good grip, but the backs are breathable so they will help prevent your hands from sweating and smelling too much, but the backs arnt waterproof, i havnt tried them at work yet, so i dont know if water will get through the backs or not, i would imagine that most water would be on the palms of the glove, BUT they are lovely and warm compared to the 377, but for £3 they are worth a go.

Sealsskinz winter gloves are not very good. Your fingertips get wet or atleast moist whenever your gloves get only a little bit wet. And your fingers are freezing off. Despite multiple forum users saying how great they are.
-
i have both the winter gul gloves from gardiners and the glacier perfect curve gloves.both excellent gloves IMO.a bit pricey at around £20 a pair but i like them!
the gul gloves are not waterproof but are ok for general winter use but the glaciers are waterproof and are a damn good glove esp if its wet and cold.only down side is they make your hands stink!!but all gloves do to some extent.
i never bothered much with gloves before wfp but now they are essential esp with carbon poles making ya hands black!! ::) ;D ;D ;D
