I'm just wondering if people are beginning to miss the boat. Has the impact of wfp gone now or is it just beginning?
There seems to be no end of new vans in my area lately, I've not lost many and still pick up new work so I'm thinking I got into this game at the right time maybe?
If you had to start again do you think you could still pick up the work?
-
Some of my custies only see me with a pole all the others use ladders :-[
-
u can always pick up work, just got to put the time and effort in to get them, i think this is where a lot of exp wc go wrong, they get lazy where as new lads want to knock so get loads of work
-
Makes no odds.
WFP is still hard enough work, managing a customer base & all it entails is no doddle. Then (believe this or not) much skill, practice & knowlage/understanding is still required to get the results you need.
I don't fear other wfp'ers at all. I've got all the above already, I'm miles in front & won't be leaving any of my customers with spots, streaks, broken plant pots etc. etc. ;D
-
I've picked up a reasonable amount of work from other WFPers.
The call's generally the same: "Can you do a proper job with those poles?" is the gist. Some donkey has generally been and left the windows in a real state. I go and clear up after them. They may have put a tank in their van but they are still drongos.
And I still reckon that in my local area about 70-80% is still ladder. No exhaustive research there, just my gut feel.

It’s only just beginning many window cleaners will be in for a shock in the near future.
Wfp window cleaning will grow exponentially, just because you will be seeing a lot of newbie’s coming into the trade, there acumen may be way above many of the current window cleaners, and they won’t be wasting any time.
Once it becomes saturated, there won’t be enough ‘select’ work about.
(Burying your head in the sand is optional)
Easily said from the comfort of your office Ewan!

Exponentially too! ;D

Do I sense a slight digging in the sand sunshine?
I think its true though, the use of wfp is growing all the time as soon as the appeal is general, and the stigma of being a window cleaner subsides a little add to this the possible earning and the negative/low risk wfp provides the world and his wife will take to wfp.
(Hydrophyl, exponential is …………)
Still don't agree Ewan. There are too many other factors involved, IT AIN'T EASY, FULL STOP!!
You should try it one day, you'd be surprised how much bollox is talked on here then! ;)

Ignore him and he'll drift away.

Some one sounds a little worried about competition
And the venus fly trap sounds like he's talking bollox as per! ;D

why does Ewans posts keep getting deleted?

In general terms i do agree with Ewan here. The job is changing beyond all recognition already. No collection day, slips left, monthly instead of fortnightly. I don't read Ewan as saying its easy, i read him as saying a lot of newcomers may have more business acumen than the previous/long term cleaners. Mine own observations would support what he says. For an idea of an 'old fashioned' mentality look no further than the recent thread wich recommends (from several cleaners) to swerve jobs that need an appointment or have access issues? And a general attitude displayed on here a lot of...don't let your customers tell you what to do.........
Like Ewan says, you can bury your head in the sand...........
-
Ewan do you employ staff

Winproclean and his ilk are the minority mikecam; there are plenty of smart window cleaners on CIU
No Ewan, me & the likes are there, on the money already & in front. Things change all the time in all trades/businesses, you just need to stay in front. It's all very simple, that's why me & the likes don't feel the need to make an issue of it as we already know the score, that's the smart bit. ;)
WFP is no big deal, it's just a different method that has lots of implications! It's not a magic wand FFS!
Did the plumbing industry go bonkers when plastic pipe & push-fit fittings came in?
Did everyone become gardeners when petrol lawnmowers became the norm?
Did the world turn to joinery when nail guns & high tech power tools came in?
-
When I first started cleaning windows using WFP a few of my older custies seemed to be convinced that I'd invented this method of cleaning and no other windies were doing it this way... Must admit this made me laugh at the time ;D

where can i buy one of these water fed pole boats then?.......i am doing some windows next to a river and this boat sounds like the ideal bit of kit.
