I haven't for a while, the reason was because we weren't getting the paper delivered so I wasn't happy that the paper/my advert was being distributed far and wide enough!
Today, behind my own house, I found out why!!!
-
I have forwarded the pictures to the editor, who is a body building nut case.... Pitty help his paper boy ;D ;D ;D
-
i wouldn't let that put me off, its probably only 1 bad egg amongst all the delivery boys
my mate is a bin man he rang me once to say he has found a box full of my leaflets in a commercial bin in town, 2500 leaflets :o :o
-
I plan on doing a good run of adverts in the month of December.... I'll deliver the bloody papers myself if I have to... :) For a discount of course!!!
-
i get free papers every week and they go straight in the bin, yet if i went for a walk and saw a load dumped, i'd probably pick one up and have a look through it. ;D

once in over 2 years of trading did we pay someone to deliver leaflets for us....... we were picking em up in the streets for weeks afterwards where they had been dumped.
NEVER AGAIN!
-
i paid a newsagent 2p per leaflet to put in the local paper for me i had to stand there and count them all out to go in a month later to see if they would do more and the old ones were still on the shelf ' oh sorry we havent done these ones yet!' so from then on i deliver myself!!!!
-
What's worse, going through a few wasters until you find a conscientious leafleter or a lifetime trudging the streets with absolutely no chance of scaling up your operation.
Delivering yourself is very small thinking in my view and for the life of me, surely you get paid more to clean carpets per hour than someone who puts leaflets through letterboxes.

colin
you would be better off finding someone to deliver your leaflets as people tend to keep them.
the kids that deliver the advertiser only get about £12 per 1000 .
and the fee gazette people chuck theirs away as well
Neil
I know someone who will deliver for you just email me .
-
It's ok Neil, I just advertised a lot in the Helston Advertiser which I thought was reasonable at £100 per month.... Well, that was until we stopped getting the paper, so I pulled my ad as I felt it wasn't getting out there.
My boy does my leafleting and in return, we clothe, feed him and let him sleep in the old dog kennel ;D ;D ;D

i paid to advertise in our local evening paper for two months and in that time i got about thirty enquiries of which i managed to get two people to let me do a survey and i got both jobs the rest were just people hoping i was going to do their sofa's and carpets for next to nothing and insisted on price over the phone. not the customers i want. lesson learned
-
i advertised briefly in the local paper and it was waste of time. and also after a few conversations with customers many wont call people advertised in the paper.
-
What methods of advertising do you use Richard?
I too am having dissappointing results from papers
-
i break even on newspaper adds but because my repeat and referal rate is so high its worth doing.

Derek,
You have just come out with one of the most fundamental marketing gems that I have seen on here in yonks.
The moderators should make it a sticky.
I can't believe the amount of times people have said they stopped advertising because "it only broke even".
It's free customers who could be worth hundreds or thousands in the coming years.
Great post.
