Wanted to know how you record the mileage you do when working ?
Do you just write down the start and end on your work sheet ?
Write down every customers house you go to, the miles and then from that house to the next ... And so on
What would the tax man want to see if he investigated

Is this for a van or car BF ?
As long as the vehicle is solely used for business purposes a mileage record is not required.

When I had a van for work I didn't record mileage simply put all expenses in for it.
My accountant asked what milage was used for private and when I said none he said that most use it for the occasional trip to the shops etc and that 100% could be questioned.
As my wife used the car for the occasional cleaning job we said my private and her work mileage cancelled each other out.
Now I am using a trailer I note the mileage at the start of the work day and end. I pay for all expenses via the Business account and will 'claim' the % depending on my mileage. At the moment it's 56% for work.

Can you prove it was fuel that was purchased & not anything else?

You should really keep receipts. However, I don't always have mine and seem to get away with it as the name of the petrol station comes up on the statement.

No,but i know what you're saying. Could have gone to Tescos, put a fiver in,and done a weeks shopping.
I wouldn't do that 'cos i'm honest. I declare all my cash too :)
