I wear latex gloves, stops the dirt in the first place.

if the black is coming onto your hands of the base pole ,I would paint it with clear lacker or epoxy paint

I get this everyday from my slx. Sometimes hurts like very small splinters.
Need to find some good waterproof gloves.

Showa 377 gloves for warmer days, 460 gloves for really cold.
Also, fill the inside and rinse the outside of each section of your pole with a hose pipe once a week. Other people on here swear by a layer of WD40 after that, but I've never bothered.

Krave - you shouldn't be getting splinters from your pole unless its been damaged in some way,
unless sealed c/f will always 'bleed' and leaves your hands black - it's best to wear gloves - now its winter i have latex gloves with lightweight work gloves over them ( the cotton ones dipped in latex )
best way to remove c/f dust is soap and a nail brush
