well we had a lucky escape today - you could of seen us on the 10pm news ::)
driving down to get a bacon butty down the A483 at 60mph we heard a rumble , looked in the mirror's just in time to see my ladder doing kartweels in the road behind us - pulled over quick and run down to see somthing out of a movie with cars and vans all over the place trying to get round my ladder at 70mph plus which landed up over the two lanes .
Lucky we dragged it to the side just after some transit clipped it ( probley on his phone ! ) back to the van we found out that we had only put one spinner on to keep it on the rack , we spent the next hour drinking tea in the layby getting over the shock .
lucky it never went through someones car or caused some huge pile up :(
apart from that we had a good day !!!

lol done that twice myself before but not as hair raising as that, least no one was hurt and you can look back and laugh...
-
Happened to mine the other day, Although just about stayed on, front of it coem swinging around and was hanging sideways off my van at 60mph, quick stop for me.
Got rhino roof bars on my new van and was using a old clamp that didnt seem deep enough.
Lesson learnt.

Told you ladders are dangerous
-
get a wfp and ........................... can not be bothered to explain why .........................zzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZzzzzzzz
-
I hope you got one of the lads to climb up it first when you got to the job, can't be too careful ;D
-
Now thats one of my fears, scary things them ladders, lost control of some in the wind and just managed to stop them crashing smack into the middle of the roof of a brand new s-class merc, clattered on the floor instead. I DEFINITLELY think a lucky escape is exactly that and if you are lucky you get these lucky escape warnings that are timely reminders to pay attention to whats going on.Reckon i will still break a sky dish though !

yeah we know, Proof they are still dangerous.Working at heights dont mention about ladders flying off van roofs.
I saw some ladders on the M60 the other week laying across two lanes and two roofers on side of road scratching their heads.

happened to me once and never ever forget to shock and panic i was in thank fully noting happened one of my luckiest days
-
Braked and the unsecured ladder shot forwards making big gouge marks in the bonnet then siddled under the car in front :-[
-
I am also full wfp.
Was today thinking of buying a telescopic ladder to keep in the back of the van, and only take out the big sturdy one when needed.
-
i dont think the new van helped - ive a merc vito and when you put the ladder on its higher at the front than the back - i now look like a blue fire engine with the ladder sticking up - i think ill try and sue Merc as im sure its a design fault ;D
the worst ive had before this is when i left my big stainless flask on the roof , after 30 mins of driving round with it it flew off and rolled round the road - that caused panic as the coming cars thought it was a bomb in the road lol
that survived and be had the tea later :)
