I setup a business account with Abbey as their accounts were free for life and met all my requirements.

just use a basic bank account,  banks have to give you one by law,  and just keep records of what u spend on the business and this should be fine

Normal basic bank account is fine,go for that lets you pay at the post office as this is convenient if you have a post office near your round and not have to go into town to do your banking.I have a basic account to pay checks bank transfers and cash and buy tools, petrol and clothes.Funny I needed a higher credit rating for my basic one than i did for my current account.Make an appointment to see customer services at a local bank you fancy worst they can say is no.

Hi Ant,
You've made a few self deprecating posts.I would say take yourself more seriously.

You will get cheques and if you want them credit transfers. It's much simpler to have a different account for this.If you want to use the post office the alliance and leicester (now rebranded santander) is your boy.

I'm no lawyer but i think you need id- driving licence-or passport, and utility bills, to open an account.

I have a personal at Lloyds but will be opening a business one at RBS or Abbey. RBS have 2 year free banking for start ups. I've read on business forums that its better to have a business one if you want a loan for your business and its clearer for your records and the tax man whats what.

Ant - Co-op are one of only 2 banks that will give you an account if are BR.
forget who the udder is - might be Barclays

As long as you have records of what goes in and comes out (ie statements) you will be fine, just remember
to get custy's to make payable to you not your trading name.

OT - i see the FSB offers free banking with the Co-Op - anyone a member and use this - been toying with the
idea again as you get great legal cover against the tax man .
and is membership tax deductable ?

I assume you have since been discharged?
If so, if you want to start re-building a credit history, it is often possible to get one of those high rate rip off credit cards.  All you need to do is use it sparingly and repay in full each month so it doesn't cost you.  Just think of it as a way of getting credibility back to a potential lender - though it does take 6 years for a BR to drop off your credit file.
Co-op and Nationwide are usually more sympathetic to those needing basic accounts - especially if you didn't owe them when you went BR.
Lots of good tips at

 Hi Ant
sorry for your troubles, my brother went for similar situation only for 4 grand i would have bailed him out if he had told me in time!

just point out from a bookeeping  and accountancy might be better to run two accounts one for your personal banking one for payments, keeps it clean.

cheers

john

While this would be ideal - it's ok to have just 1 account and it's difficault to get a B/s account - even being a discharged BR - best to keep it simples

i think that the fsb will not let you bank with them if you have a br or bad credit rating,so check first.
