Can I use a spare pump (shurflo 100psi) as a booster pump for the RO? Or are the booster pumps different to these?
-
i was wondering about this aswell,i've been wfp since xmas,i have a merlin RO,presure is about 35 psi without booster,i have a aquatec 60 psi that i was going to use ,but also have a shurflow 100 psi pump, but not sure if it can be used constantly to boost presure ???

There is no reason why you cant use a shurflo pump but unsure how much they would really boost your water pressure, TBH you'd be better off buying a proper 24/7 pump that was designed to pump water. you can get them from around £170 quid ( cheaper for a draper made one )
Mine bumps my water pressure upto 70 psi for the Merlin and produces over 100 ltrs p/h

It's certainly more suitable than a sureflow, couldn't see a spec and unsure of how good the quality will be but should be good enough.
i got the top one on this page - they did the calculations so i got 70 PSI and i run this pump over night to fill 2 IBC's - it's never let me down.

Hi Darran,i found this spec to the pump i mentioned, if it helps compare to the one you have.
Power: Electric - 230V/50Hz
Power input: 1200 W
Max. displacement: 47 m
Max. delivery height: 8 m
Max. delivery volume: 60 l/min
but if it's not up to the job,i'll get the one you've got, thanks for your help.

If you used A normal sureflo pump it would keep dead ending so the pressure switch would kick in, thus acheiving nothing.
You can get a booster pump for under a 100.00 to boost upto a 500gpd.

I have an old shurflo pump and varistream set up to just boost as and when needed, works fine, my normal tds from membranes is 6 to 8 from 55psi water pressure, once boosted to 90psi the tds halves to 3 and pure production doubles. It's not something you should leave on all the time though .

I'm not o'fay with how to measure/work out fluids - APS just sorted for me - the pump you are looking at has a tank, so you are paying for that as well when it isn't required so the pump itself will be of a lower standard.
on the APS site they now do this...
Ebara JESXM5 230V Water Pump
at £118.00 + vat and it's stainless steel - this would be my choice.
