hi guys ,names bob,been window cleaning for a few weeks ,now got 25 new customers,am a trady cant afford w.f.p at the moment, but what is the best way or time to canvass at this time of the year,i live in the hertford area,any tips would be appreciated as i am skint and as we all know XMAS is almost upon us,any tips welcome,thanks.

knock a door, from 10 am, go knock council in the day and private at night

i kind of kept clear of council mate am i wrong?

1st rule - never pre judge any house or road - you will get good custy's in any location - tap them all - dirty ones may no be able to find a w/c and clean ones may be doing them themselves but would welcome a w/c go for large and small
if you have spare time then canvass during the day - set a target of say 100 houses over 3 hours - then have a break and go out again.
sat/sun mornings are good right upto lunch time.
keep a note of those knocked,but no in then revisit on different day/time

where i am there is a lot of money in council houses, and they always seem to have spare cash, as they aint paying 1500 mortages, plus a lot more are in during the day i find,
best thing to do is go out get loads of custy make some money and then when u are bursting at the seems dump the crap

cheers darren,never even occured to me to knock on doors on a sunday , is it safe, silly question i know but , have you canvassed on a sunday, can just about get my head around canvassing on a saturday..........but, A SUNDAY!!!!!......Looks like i will have to grow some BALLS!!!!.....so would you knock ANYTHING i mean any door?...by the way thanks blue monkey for you advice,ta...... :) :)

i dont knock on a sunday, as want a day off but week and saturdays are fine, knock everything and quote, the custy u think will be a pain, turn out to be the best custy u can get,

nowt wrong with council house type of house - most privately owned anyways - always look at the garden first if its full of crap and not looked after then my advice is to keep clear but if garden mint then they take pride in house - learnt this tip on this very forum and its very true .... good luck !

Yep i find Sundays THE best, not only in getting results but people seem really chilled! - don't start at the crack of dawn 9.30 onwards and stop around 12 ish before people start having lunch - i never did the afternoons ( family time ) thing is when starting out time off/day off only slows down your chances of getting a round built up - theres plenty of time to relax at weekends when your week is full or a wet week comes along.
any door, well, only 2 i have passed on - 1 was a fellow w/c's and the other had a garden like steptoes yard and you couldn't see the windows for junk.
you'd be surprised how many country estate type houses have no w/c ;)

Sounds like all day saturday till about 4pm and sunday from 10am to 12noon , i will definately give it a shot this weekend darren,let you know how i get on monday,thanks lads,any more tips to get me some more window cleaning work?... (domestic). :) :)

Bit off topic, But I lived in Hertford. Nice town in some areas.
Just get out knocking. Know all houses unless the windows are some sort you cant be bothered with. (Im stubborn and wont clean certain windows due to time).

Thanks for all your tips lads,went out saturday, 10am till 1pm and got 5 new customers........fantastic to knock on doors and find people actually IN.....did not go out sunday,things to sort out ,but, will now be a priority to go out EVERY weekend at least till i get my round up and running,got a very positive response from custys as well.....THANKS. ;) :) :) ;D ;D
