Customer wants protector but wants it to
be Scotchguard, cheapest I've found is at
Prochem at £45 but then I've lost all my cc
suppliers web sites after re-formatting.
Any cheaper places and anyone got a few suppliers?
She also asked about a guarantee, do SG do one?
Do solutions do one for their Protect Nano?

Do not give a guarantee otherwise u will be getting called back every other week, i got an empty scotchgard carton if you want to put your own choice protector in it mate

Mark, slightly naughty but even so I'd still use that, but only as plan B!
Plan A is to explain to the customer that Scotchgard is widely used as a generic term for Protector. Throw the word Fluorocarbon at her and watch the blank expression :)
You can sell her whatever protector you want to, as long as it's a good quality one, and you can win her over by explaining that it's exactly the same thing as Scotchgard but cheaper.
I think in situations like this you can't let customers start calling the shots because they don't know what the bloody hell they're talking about most of the time! You have to take control and steer them, because you're the expert.
What does she want you to guarantee? That her kids won't throw up on the carpet?!! That nobody will ever get it dirty?
I'd set things out very clearly that a protector will increase liquid repellance, slow down the rate that soil gets ground in and make carpet cleaning more effective in the future. It is NOT a magic forcefield and some stains WILL defeat it, but over the years a protected carpet will look better and be more free from spots than an un-protected carpet.
Maybe she's getting mixed up with the Guardsman warranty? Basically an insurance policy, probably meaning she's double insured unless she doesn't have home insurance! Cheaper to protect the carpet and if needed get you out to spot clean than pay all those premiums.

Cheers for that but problem solved.
She tells me they are new carpets now and she wants them
protecting. I told her they would probably already be protected
if new. She rang the supplier and sure enough they are.

The point is John that she has absolutely no idea why she's asking for scotchgard by name. Unless she's a chemist and understands fluorocarbon technology......... in which case she'd be asking for something else ;)
If a customer asked you to clean their ceiling with your wand would you do it?

If the customer asks for a brand why not just use it ??? don't see a problem with it.
I use scotch guard because it's a house hold name and sells its self.

Tony because they don't know what the **** they are talking about!
I sell the protector I use because it's better than scotchgard at the protection side of things, and also has an anti-bacterial ingredient. Cheaper than scotchgard, does a better job and also does something scotchgard doesn't....... no-brainer for both me and the customer!

I also think (whilst being no expert on protector at all) its an opportunity to present yourself as the expert.

Scotch guard is a perfectly good product I do not see a problem with using it sorry
