Title: Crashed van Alexandra Swan insurance
Post by: Bryan_Dolby on October 31, 2010, 06:12:54 pm
Thursday morning 10.00 am, in a queue of traffic on Immingham docks when all of a sudden a lorry reverses straight in to me (Polish driver)
Did the usual and got out of vehicle and took the picks (lots of damage)
Contacted Alexandra swan to tell them about the crash, they were very good at organising ever thing
Friday morning at 10.00 am new van on the front of my house (ionic thermo pure 600 pro), now that takes some beating
For all of you I can only say excellent service
I saw them at Windex 09 and made the enquiry about the insurance policy, at first was not sure about the price but will have to say now unbelievable value,

That does sound like great service Bryan.

Just a couple of things I will mention for others' benefit though.

I switched to AS this time too.  There was a small decrease in my premium but a higher excess so swings and roundabouts.  No problem.
I wasn't allowed to take out the extra cover to get a replacement van though because I have my tools cover elsewhere (I have it tacked on to my PL insurance rather than the van insurance).  So if I insure the van with them next year, I will probably tack the tools cover onto it (PL and van renewed around same time).
Also, although it says different on AS's website, apparently they no longer give discounts to FWC members.  I did suggest that they remove that bit from their website as it is misleading advertising.  I do suspect c*ck up rather than conspiracy though.

I think they only cover professionally fitted systems - am I right?

I imagine so because they did ask me who fitted mine but it may well depend which insurer you are placed with.  It seems to go through several hands.  AS is a broker that subcontracts out to other broker(s) who then place you with the insurer. I had mine fitted at Omnipole which they seemed satisfied with.

when was the last time someone stole your van? if mine was in a crash id just get my backpack out and clean them that way or even god forbid the ladders. No way can i justify paying £1400 more for my insurance cos AS said theyd loan me a van ::)
