I'll second that. ;)
-
there was a debate on this subject a few weeks ago
-
The Fed has a much larger membership & much more influence in the industry, and because the FED is UK only they can offer members benefits that the Guild couldn't ever manage to replicate in an international format (free legal advice etc etc). Its a good organisation to join,.. it just depends what suits your companies needs best.

Look at both websites and make your own decision
You should look at what the both organisations have achieved not just in the past but future projects, the FWC is dedicated to our industry with a proven track record but it’s around £90.00 to join
Any body can say they are going to do this and going to do that but what have they achieved to date.
What would you expect your trade association to do?
The FWC is dedicated to making our industry more professional, with iosh H&S training, attending industry meetings and organising trade shows for our members

;D ok so it looks like i should not bother i am a small company just myself make a ok living so what do i get industry meetings i am to small , trade shows i go to the internet, training surely that comes with experence so £20 for the guild seems a better deal if all i want is stickers . :-*ok i have only been doing it for 2 years but i have never been asked about a guild of master cert . I thought there might be cheaper insurance ,discount on products ect i think i am to small for this :-\
-
Tell any potential customers you are a member of the FWC and you will get the fee back, and more.
most will say and what the hell is that,
i joined the guild it is only £20 i find it value for money, not just the guild bit, the badge looks good on website but if you need to ask nat any questions u dont feel as much as a cheap skate lol
-
so when u are looking for work ewan, all ur custy go with u becasue u are in the FWC?
-

;D Get your fee back lol what more ,please someone tell me why it will help me :P Why dont they make it cheaper sounds like most people dont know and you join just because you want the sign for car and website lol :-*

We seem to agree a lot today lol
-
Mark
if you have a small business then join the guild, grow ur business slowly but right rather than try to get huge and balls it up, in 18 months of wc not one custy as ever asked me if i am a member of any fed or guild, all they ask is how much and when,
for 20 the guild is worth it, i cant comment on the fed as i could not spend 90 if i wasnt certain, as i am a tight northerner ;D

Your response it seems you are not interested in the our industry just yourself
I am a small one man band 95% commercial
I am very passionate about my industry and the changes it as made
And it does not happen over night
Lets say if the FWC had not got involed with things like WAHR and hose pipe ban ,talking to insurance under writters, talking to HSE, what could have happened
Just my opinion

I would have to agree with Ewan
I have gained alot of commercial work over the past few years and allways ask why i got picked for the job,
Some say price but the majority say
Training certs
Belong to trade assosiation
My portfolio
tender portfolio
Years of experience
I know some will say it does not matter but it does to me,i allways want to deliver quality

when i started this topic i had know idea how much was charged by each guild or if it was worth joining. Nothing that has been said has affected me in the last 2 years so that has saved me £000 and i do care about the industry it is my job but i do think i am to small to take part at the moment . :-* Just seen you next post before i send this one Ewan and Bryan what you are saying is great that you got work from the fed but again it has not affected me .
-
I personally think the fwc is too cheap, should have a more strigent Assessment process.
I am a member of
The fwc
The guild
Chas
Safecontractor
Fsb
Chamber of commerce
Cost me more than £1200 for the year, but I would feel naked without it all
-
I do not think you could ever win the ones who do not want to join
or the negetive ones
The price seems to be a issue, but on what money we make ,i think i can justify the FWC membership
At the end of the day you will join the one that you want to
What frustrates me is whos is actually doing some thing to make the changes

Slumpbuster
Was waiting for your negative reply
What changes as the guild done
Bryan
-
so what u going to pick mark?
-
Mark is right, in a way. What has the fed done for him? Nowt!
What has the fed done for me? Nowt!
What exactly has the fed done? anything worth anything to the majority?
Who's pockets are being lined?
Personally, I don't believe the fed have any clout in real terms!
Just my opinion of course. ;)
-
;D the guild for my shiny stickers lol ::)
-
It seems i have been led with a carrot
Wipeclean
You are bound to say what you have said you are a member of the internet guild and it gives you a sticker

Indeed like many others, I felt that the efforts made when drought threatened the southeast a few years ago were invaluable. I was aware of both Craig's and Steve Lowe's work that they put in for the public hearings. Undoubtedly yourself and others did plenty behind the scenes too.
I'm not a member of the FWC myself. I have been in the FSB for a few years. I reckon I will join one day but not just yet.

Paul
Thank you for the words of wisdom
You did miss out Dave Morris he did do alot with the drought order
Craig and Steve did do alot to prevent window cleaners been banned from using their systems

;D Didn't mean to leave you out Dave. I'm sure Bryan's swimming pool water could have been put through some resin and used if push came to shove.
I'm afraid that my own efforts were restricted to a brief heckle at one of the hearings.
-
I heard your heckle wasn't as good as Glyn's
