Hi all
I work in an area of retireds and the roads are clogged with senior snails. Property prices are South East and a lot now seem to be house rich and cash poor with low rates of interest on savings for many years.
This week I've had 2 'no's to quotes, (£12 & £15 det & con)
, one 'not today it looks like rain', and one 'no my husband did them last week'. Annoying, but there are more windows than window cleaners!
Are people cutting down where you are??

Not at all mate.
Just a coincidence. Keep positive. Don't read too much into it.

It can go through phases like that sometimes even when the economy is doing well. The best solution is to play the numbers game. Keep your prices where you want them to be and try to do more quotes. I put all my prices up recently - mostly by £1. I had only one cancellation from over 200 increases. The job was a small one and was way underpriced at £5.50 and I was glad to be shot of it. Even at £6.50 it would have been a pain because they sometimes did the "Not today" thingy on me.

I started as a wc in august (this year), since then I have (by my terms) put together a decent amount of business, mostly domestic but with some commercial hopefully about to take off!! All the business has come from door knocking and some recommendations. I have some houses at £35 out and then the same in every other time!! I think to be honest if you are professional and polite you will get business regardless pf the economic climate. The fact is Joe Bloggs wont climb a ladder and his Mrs will nag him to do it until the day you knock on his door!!
I have just spoken to ionic systems re a pole system and looks like my remaining working life will be as a wc....but then again who knows!
If it hadn't been for stumbling on this forum I would never have even considered becoming a wc. I cant tell you how many people have told me it is all sewn up and that I will get a kicking from another window cleaner!! I am proving them wrong and there are some very helpful people on here.
keep at it, and use this place to stay enthusiastic!

I have to agree with Vince,my contractors have lost so much work this year,
one the other day lost 3 clive sutton car showrooms, and bumped him for £8,ooo.
there is nothing going on out there people have stoped spending,we are now also doing a massive push in carpet cleaning, and spending a lot of money on adds etc ;)

I had a run like that last week, but by the end of the week I was actually I had actually gained about £500 worth of annual bussiness.
as mentioned its a numbers game, keep canvassing and replaceing low mark up with higher mark up = less work more ££££
