Title: Slx
Post by: Klean07 on October 29, 2010, 07:45:40 pm
The black rubber cap on end of pole has snapped and come off which means when my pole is collapsed the metal parts are showing at end of pole which are quite sharp. Yesterday it caused my pole hose to split. I've repaired it now but is there anything I can do to stop this happening again other than to not close sections fully.

Just phone Gardiners, they are pretty good at sending glue out to fix their poles!

You will undoubtedly be eternally grateful and want to praise them for being so helpful.

Sorry, but I wasnt much help either :)

go to a local fishing tackle shop and get a end cap, then just make a hole in end for hose ;)

I've found that all makes of poles I've had wear out the pole butt's at some point including x-tels.  The fix is to replace as soon as possible as it prevents grit getting in the pole then I keep the last section extended by about an inch so when collapsing the pole nothing comes into contact with the pole butt.  The last section being used the least as well so therefor not causing too much of a problem.

Simon.

This is what i do..
Get one large protector ball, slice in half.
Drill the hole wider, think its 13mm
Fed this through your pole hose until your at the base of your pole,
Get your mrs to hold the pole and the half protector ball, whilst you tape around about 50 times with insulation tape.
It acts like a soft cushion which protects the end of you pole and makes your pole hose last much longer as its always against the soft protector ball when being pulled in or out.
Job done
I thank you

Go to B and Q and get a furniture leg end cap (ferrule is the proper term). In the mean time wrap loads of gaffer tape around the end of it.

Well done trippy on the fags! Re: the beer - unless it's for personal reasons you don't have to completely drop your beloved beer. The studies? Keep your wits about you and "make sure of all things" before you proceed to the next levels.

i agree, the extels are crap.
i use a 18 ft slx for most of my domestic work, and ive had the same one since june last year and is still going strong.
i used to wear out a 17 ft extel in about 6 months, so to me , im saving money.
also last week i was cleaning a couple of semi's, gutters & fascias, and because i didnt want to get my main window cleaning brush covered in ecover, i reached for an old 17ft extel i had in the van. i'd forgotten how bendy they were and made the job alot harder.

I have a couple of SLXs - this is what I did.

Get a 3" strip of butyl rubber pond liner, 12" long. Wrap around and secure with gaffer tape. It protects the butt protector, it's flexible and doesn't snag the hose, it's cheap and it never wears out, it's fixed on / adjusted in less than a minute.

The end cap on my pole is still intact its the rubber piece that goes over it that has gone. Meaning that when all sections are closed fully they stick out of the end. So when I pull hose it rubs on edges of sections hence splitting it.
