Never seen one never cleaned one. Whats the telltale sign(s) its silk and not wool?

Well I'm surprised. Thought there would have been some replies.

Have cleaned a few of these, mainly the turkish variety, using a solvent cleaning machine. Easily identified by the very fine and soft texture of the pile. (Some synthetic ones out there also that are very close to the real thing.) Have a mate who cleans the silk ones with HWE and never had a problem but personally , I think I'll stick to the solvents.

Thanks mate. Same here. Wouldnt risk cleaning a thousand pound silk rug.
