My forecast is rain till at least Sunday.
-
JR that must be the most depressing pic I have ever seen on any of the 6 forums ::) ::) ::), its life but not as we know it. Was at the airport this morning cats and dogs there and back, sunny N.Wales :-\
-
I know Jeff,
I have had days like this and have spoken to Dai in Llandudno and he's been working in shorts.
It's either pack in wc or move.
-
Jdemarco never had any trouble ;)
-
I spoke to Demarco a couple of days ago,
He claims he's not taken a wage in 6 months?
-
Has he retired and is living off his mountain of cash?
-
Havnt you got any insides or gutters you can do?
Always keep something back for times like this
Gordon
-

worked most of today in the rain and picked up a new £20 domestic and a gutter clean, got home at 3.30pm soaked, ok I had to sit out a few heavier spells
-
We've just finished for the day - Alan started at 8 - no probs.
-
I've worked all day in it too,
I left stoke at 5am and started in cheltenham just before 7 and worked my way up through worcestershire and into the bottom end of brum.
I got absolutley totally soaked.
Its all in the name of good fun though.
Dean.
-
but was all yours commercial which can be done in any weather dean
-
I'm 99.999999 domestic and custies don't like u cleaning in bad weather.
-
but was all yours commercial which can be done in any weather dean
Yes mate,
I still got seriously soaked, I wouldnt have been any wetter if I lay down fully clothed in the bath.
shocking.
-
God Jason, your not having much luck mate. I worked all day, it was blowing like hell first thing but no rain. I was looking across to Anglesey from Llandudno, less than 10 miles as the crow flies.
When it comes from the south west, the mountains form a barrier and all the rain falls on them before getting to LLandudno.
-
well mine was all domestic today and as I said no complaints and picked up a new account
-
I did a leisurely three quarter day here in the southeast. It didn't rain all day but it was spitting or raining moderately for most of the day. There were one or two raised eyebrows but I'm not prepared to sit at home unless it's either chucking it down, freezing (below zero), or just unsafe to work. I did wimp out a bit at the back end of the day and went to a job where I knew I would be doing the insides too.
-
That van looks great Jr
-
I'm 99.999999 domestic and custies don't like u cleaning in bad weather.
Mate you gona have to tell them you are the boss... and all work is guaranteed for there peace of mind (i had 0 complaints so far)
it rained today in london too i had one or 2 custies say whats this cleaning in the rain?. i just smile and say yes its horrible for me but mortgages still need to be paid in the rain otherwise i would be homeless.
they all smile and agree now even if they are ped off about the rain whats the chances that it will rain each time you clean there house each month? it might happen once or twice per year most times it will be dry.
today i cut my day short cos it was muddy wet windy etc but it was my decision not my customers.
not sure if you can train your work in such a way to accept rain i think you should make it your priority anyway, wtf works a dream in the rain remember rain water is about what 15ppm?
-
Never Stop, just keep going ;D
-
Never Stop, just keep going ;D
Thats the spirt you have such a nice van i can see alot of money spent on it.
dont let them rip your round apart
i tell them i will always come unless we have:
1)Below freezing temperatures
2)natural disasters such as earthquake, flood etc.
they laugh but then when they see how serious my face is the stop and realise
some say so you work in the rain? i say yes working in the rain is someone i do very often.
they say the last guy did not i say thats cos he did it part time and found a new job,
people have to accept it we are self employed with a tone of expenses and house bills.
Ofc we work in the rain if they dont like it i ask them why, then i prove them wrong if they still dont like it sod em !
-
Comments are right Jr, youve got a great company image/van going on there. Like Cyrstal says, non negotiable. Your doing a job and thats that.
-
Worked all day in constant rain, sometimes heavy. Always work in the rain, snow etc. As another post said the customers get used to it. If its raining i slip a rain guarantee slip into the payment envelope.
-
Combat thats a clever idea
-
Worked all day domestic in the rain.
Not a word of complaint - people who were in were glad to see me.
Vin
-
i might try that rain guarantee slip in Manchester its always guaranteed to rain. I got some houses that i have only ever done in the rain and no problems.change me socks twice today hate wet feet :D.
Had to laugh just finish WFPing this house just changing her from trad to pole and she says"is the windows going to dry left like that"
I replied "Its more and likely to rain again before they dry" ;D
-
Thanks Kate1! I have to admit I copied the idea, but wrote my own guarantee. never had a call, yet!
Rain Guarantee
English weather is unpredictable but our customers dont like unpredictable service.
In order to make sure that we always call as regulary as possible we will work in the rain.
It is dust and pollen etc. which make your windows dirty, not the rain.
All our work is guaranteed, should you not be happy with your clean call us within 24 hrs for a free re-clean.
Many thanks
Chris.
-
I managed to work through it today. Had a really good day actually. Sorry that is what you wanted to hear was it ;D

Combat i really like it. Nice one.

think of it like this, for a lot on here they made the decision to go over to wfp, now that takes guts and is a worry in itself, now all you need to do is train the mind that working in the rain is ok as well, and if you are trad just train the mind and carry more scrims, I did two large bungalows this morning trad in the rain and was thanked and told I was doing a smashing job, then for the rest of the day I was wfp mostly in the rain and no one batted an eyelid, I was absolutely soaked when I got home, but with an extra customer on my books. sure you may get the odd one that doesn't like it but that is true about going wfp.
also year or so ago I was late to a job due to weather and a customer told me you should have just came and don't try to guess what I am thinking
-
Done all our work today and picked up a £20 house, it was mostly drizzle all day today
-
cleaned a library inside and out, then off home decorating,no fun in getting wet
-
Andy,
And my daughters quad bike circle to look at. This place is great for some things and not so good for others.
I'm the only house in my village with broadband.
-
I won't be out at 1 m8. Anglesey gets very strange weather.
My forecast is rain till at least Sunday.
Think yourself lucky. I live in the middle of the country miles from the coast. You may get a few wet days but hey, why not go fishing? I would.

Yep, if you can't work find something else to do.
Now where did I put that fishing rod.. ;)

-
Started at 07:30 & finnished at 15:30
Builders Clean. The rain helps on them.
-
Chopsie,
I love it too, but a nice van on your drive doesn't pay the bills.
-
I did one with a small con roof then went to b n q, got some rock wool and built a nice snug box around my water tank out the back. Thanks for the ply board WW.
-
Are you really selling it and going back to ladders? Or just having one of those days ???
-
when you have a rainey day .why dont you go door knocking for gutter and pvc cleaning....beats sitting about feeling sorry for yourself...
-
Are you really selling it and going back to ladders? Or just having one of those days ???
he just said a smaller van nothing about ladders ;)
-
I won't go back to ladders, I've been Wfp for 4 years. I have no problems selling the van. My wife and daughter come first.
I bought the van to try and get to my next level and maybe I'm giving in to quick. But with economics being tight I might cut my losses.
-
Here's my rain guarantee.
Dear Customer - a note from your window cleaner
So that we keep your panes and frames gleaming we provide a regular service and keep to a reasonably predictable schedule; however it can be a bit of a juggling act getting the balance between arriving on time and not cleaning in really bad weather.
To preserve schedules we clean in drizzly and showery conditions too. Please be assured that the purified water system contains no soapy residues - and this means your windows will remain clean despite squally showers that may land on the glass during the cleaning and allowing to dry process.
However in the rare event that you feel the rain has marked any of your glass then please do not hesitate to call us back and we will clean the offending window(s) again.

Yes he did!!! ok so i missed the bit about the bike ::)
-
oops I missed that bit ::)
-
Stating the obvious I know jr, but unfortunatly you will probably lose a packet on the van :( I have lost thousands chopping and changing cars, Still paying them off now :-[ :'(
-
I know mate,
With the extras on the van and vat it was just over £30k, a van went through an auction in Manchester last week and made £24k so I'm looking at a loss of £6000 which is £600 a month for the 10 months of ownership.
-
If you decide to sell I hope you get what your hoping for it mate.
-
Cheers Chopsie.

This is good mate but i wouldnt even put that in cos it makes them aware to check your work. then they might call you over a little bead which they never noticed but always shows up on that particular window.
most people will be out and the rain may have already stopped when they arrive home so they wont know :)
its a good idea you got thou , its quote professorial some customers may like it others may think there is something wrong with cleaning in the rain and you are trying to cover it up!
my worse mistake was poping notices of the wfp change over i had a few that refused cos they thought i was trying to pull a fast one.
so i just turned up with the pole and said nothing worked much better same thing for the rain Just Do It :)
