Hi,

I have just comlpeted an office job, and the customer is very happy with the outcome, and had prior to me staring the job made up his mind that this one particular stain was not going to budge.  However, I did try my best to remove the stain with little result.  This has niggled me some what, as i do not like to be beat.....!!

The colour of the stain is magenta, and on my pH chart is closest to 7.0.  I have always used Chemspec's RX for spotting ink remover, which usually does the trick.

I used my normal method apply ink remover allowing dwell time, then agitated with spotting tool.  Some of the stain did blot.  When coming to the extraction stage, I had very little result.

Your thoughts, and assistance are very much appreciated.

Hi Paul,

Have you tried looking on the other site ( another forum.co.uk )

There is  a good stain removal guide on it.

Hi Guys,

Some ink stains will just be impossible to remove.Afterall they are often designed that way.

It's worth trying a range of different solvents.

I keep white spirit , propan- 1 -ol (isopropanol)and acetone(nail varnish remover) on the van.

A little on a cloth and see if you get any colour transfer.

Some inks will be water soluble to a point with another solvent required to finish it off.

Douglas forgot to mention too much can cause delamination, or damage to backing so don't go heavy handed and make sure it's a well ventilated area or you may be flying home.

Shaun,

You are of course right , all solvents should be treated with  absolute respect.

This is why I reccomend a small amount on a towell rather than pour it on.

All the products which I mentioned are relatively safe however and I would not reccomend the use of  Toluene,Xylene,Trichloroethylene etc unless you really know what you are doing.

HI

I had the same thing the alternative is to dry ourt some sponges HOst Envirodri or soultion no1 and soak them in solvent, then apply the treated sponges to the contaminated areas, allow 15-20 minute dwell time, agitate then remove with an upright vacuum, then treat the remaining ink with solvent or eco spotter an alcohol based spotter lightly sprayed or by way of secondary treatment ie a towel, and blot, then rinse with M/S or normal cleaning detergent.

I am please to inform that the stain did lift, thanks to acetone.  I would have never even considered putting nail varnish remover on a stain.
