hi today i've been accused that i charge more than other ''professional'' trades and even more than a doctor.after i finished cleaning his house windows he called me and showed me the frames and said they are still not clean enough, black runs one some corners and sills which they don't come off with the brush.i said they need more than just a normal maintenance clean.more like a restoration,a service i don't offer.he asked if i can do it for him and said i can try but don't know how long it will take and how much to charge so i said i'll charge £20/h as he's and old and reliable customer.he almost had an heart attack and said he doesn't give that much to one of his bricklayers(i believe he owns a building company).after a long chat explaining that it's not that easy to be a window cleaner, that we do have expenses and don't work in heavy weather conditions i managed to '' calm'' him down.although he said he can't afford to pay me that much an hour and said he'll look for some one else to do it(maybe his bricklayer).i'm quite happy he said no as the work that is involved in cleaning every inch of the frame with a sponge/cloth and upvc cleaner it's not worth £20/h

i remember giving a price for power washing to a nice cust, an ex professor. i wasnt sure how long it was going to take so i said £50 ph, he wasnt very happy with that as he didnt earn that much as a prof!
so i said ok £100. which he agreed to, ended up taking me just over an hour! ha ha.

that's what i told him we don't work all day 7 days a week.it's just not possible.anyway £20 /h was more reasonable but i guess not for him

I give jobs like that to my handyman contact and he charges £12-£15 per hour!!! I would try to source someone local to you for this type of work, that way the client dosen't start looking around!!! Which may lose you the client!!! ;)

Years ago I thought I would start a bit of gardening as I was always being asked. I made the mistake of giving my name to the Harrow Association for the Disabled. Huge mistake, lots of people thought I was some kind of volunteer gardener so I got lots of phone calls but nobody liked my prices.
One bloke got me round to give him a quote to clear a large and very overgrown backgarden. It had trees to come down and big bushes to dig out as well as all the rest. I said it would be over a thousand pounds with a skip and everything. He really did nearly fall over, he thought it would be around £50 !
Gardening really is rubbish, I didn't last long.
