After going through the various types of vechicle for my business I did intend on refurnishing a Landrover 110 but still came up against the same operational hurdles.
Then whilst trawling through some backposts I came across a few items from Kevin James of www.lifeonaledge.co.uk and his exploits using a quad, trailer, L5 etc....ok so initially I did think it a bit of the wall and to a certain extent 'odd'.
So a few months ago on a visit to Amsterdam I could'nt help but look at how the window cleaners used alot of hand-carts to move their ladders around then at night they are parked up in the same area and locked up....so best tool for the job....parking in Amsterdam is a nightmare at best.
So looking at Kevin's operation I have written to him and he has been very kind to give me his views and opinions are 2+ years of quad/trailer use. So he may well have a great solution to his working operation and I think that his model may work for me too.
Given that I have had a few months of being lethargic and lack-lustre about my business I think I may follow his lead.
Ok a good quad can be the same price as a van, then there is the trailer, water tanks designed for quads etc...but in the end I think I may consider this route this time next year (when my my is due to go - it's 12 years old now).
Anyone think that this could be an option for them....or do you have other idea's...
Cheers
Dave.

Other ideas. He often posts on matts enlightened forum for gentile window cleaners, and i don't bash him but i think it's a bit limiting.

You mentioned considering getting a 110.
This is what we use I have 6 now and we are on to design/layout number 3.
Which operational hurdles are you trying to sort out?
We have wiped out most of the issues that I think using a using a van throws up. i.e
1. back strain from crouching for reel.
2. load area of vehicle becoming redundant
If you are interested I will be posting pictures of our latest machine here soon.

I like the idea of a quad for working although I agree with Slumpbuster that it can be limiting.
You are restricted with towing weights I think of around 150kg, but I suppose you could do a couple of pit stops during the day to refill your water tank when needed.
It would also be great in the fair weather but would leave you exposed to the elements during poorer weather.
I did see a picture of his quad on another forum and he had the hosereel and battery mounted in front of the handlebars which I thought looked quite dodgy and possibly dangerous.
I would try and mount those items in the trailer which I believe would look better and be a safer option.
I reckon a quad bike could be a great marketing tool for your business because if nothing else you will certainly get noticed! ;D
