Ive got a 25L DI and i tipped it up to find a bit of wet resin spilling out then it came out bone dry and a bright golden colour as if it was fresh resin.ive been using this resin for 4 and half months using on average 1300L A WEEK.my tap tds varies from 35-90.
does resin change colour when its spent?
do you think i should empty some out and try it three quarters full?it is a monster DI(very big!!)
thanks guys

3/4 full for sure.
-
Di vessels don't work well if filled to capacity as the granules are too tightly packed and there is less surface area. Have it 3/4 full and shake it every now and then.
Simon.

Yes resin goes dark when it is spent, instead of the golden colour your talking about.
Sounds to me that your resin is channeling due to be to much in there.
I've always filled the vessel to the neck and when it settles there is less in there but enough if you know what i mean.
I would defo take some out
-
ive took some resin out and emptied a bit of water out.its not made any difference! ::)
my tap tds is normally between 35-70 but ive just checked it and its the highest ive ever known it!(101!!) ::) ::)
the first vessel is getting it down to 28 and the second small di gets it down to 000.
its lasted me 4 and half months(25L VESSEL).looks like i need to buy another 25kg bag methinks.
cheers guys

there is some sort of calculation to work out how much resin you should use, not sure of it my self but omeone must be able to help you on here
-
the problem is ronnie my tap tds keeps going up and down!at the mo its highest ive ever known it(101tds)
so its not consistent.also i didnt know the quality of the resin as it came pre filled from pure freedom.i was hoping it would last 6 months or so with only using 1200-1300L A WEEK.
ill get a 25kg bag of tulsion mb 115 and see how long that lasts! ;) ;D ;D

according to the resin calculator at gardiners ive done well out of the resin.even if i used 3 bags a year its not too bad.4 and a half months is ok really.

4+ months sounds excellent to me.
Are you rotating the bottles? I've never heard of filling the bottles 3/4 of the way but rotating the bottles means that all the resin I throw away is black.
-
the big DI ive got the resin is brown/gold coloured but its only getting my tds down to 28 at the moment out of a tap tds of 100.ive been using it single for 4 and a half months and when it crept up to 10 i put a small new DI in front that gets it down to 000.this DI is only 2.7 L so it wont last long before needing changing!
i originally bought the small one for purifying on the job but ive never needed it.
the 25L DI was bought as my main DI.

Do you have a upper screen, riser and lower screen on the DI vessel as well?
Usually DIs are filled 3/4 and resin is quite well packed. Once in a while you just need to give it a good shake, or roll over the lawn, some form of channeling is inevitable.

Really?
I too have used most of the resins available and found some to last up to 3 times longer than others.
-
yes really, no difference at all, i use di only

When I started out I was also DI only and I trawled the internet for the cheapest resin, which I found at the time to be from Brodex. Prolite something or other, which I used for a couple of years DI only.
Meantime I upgraded to a static RO, but continued to use the prolite from Brodex.
After reading posts on here recommending Daqua who supply tulison, I switched my supply to them.
When using the prolite after RO I was changing my resin every 4-5 weeks, with the Tulison its every 3 months (we use 750l per day per vehicle).
-
this is simalar to me i used rohmm and dass(i think it ws called) then the purelite from brodex which di only a bag is lasting 2months i read many posts on here about its lack of quality so im using tulson from daqua and its lasting the same???
im not sure why were both seeing different results but i would love to get it last three times longer it would save me 160 a quarter.

Do you have two bottles rotated?
-
no, its a brodex system so just one bottle
-
If you fit a second bottle you will get more life out of the resin.
When the TDS starts to creep up you change the resin in bottle 1 then put it in position 2 moving the second bottle back. This helps prevent throwing away good resin (which is what this thread was about in the first place)
-
so say one bottle last 4 weeks two may last say 10 weeks??
if so i may give it a go all though im seriously thinking about a static ro, just dont like the idea of toms of waste water.
-
Static RO is definitely more cost effective than DI only once you have it set up. The only reason we use DI as well as the RO is that we cover a large area and if we need to fill up during the day it would too far to travel for a refill.
