thinking fo downsizing my van. currently have an 05 plate vivaro with 52k on clock with 400 litre tank. May downsize and get caddy van. vivaro is decent enough van and has its uses like for when i load my pressure washer into it when needed. I could just as easily buy a small trailer and when needed hook up and stick pressure washer on that.

Try the new caddy max..........
It's the biz!!

hi mate. just saw post, don't know if your still interested. been doing wfp for year and half, have caddy on 05 plate. just had sign written, on holiday but when get home can get pix uploaded if you wish and more detail on van. cheers dude, Andy
-
na not just now mate. Defo would like to see yer set up though

Heres a couple of pix..... Note in the one you can see where the filters and RO were attached to ply, couple of weeks ago i set up static tank at my brother in laws (yippeee, no more metered water!!)
This van is a 1.9tdi, 105bhp, chipped to about 130bhp by myself (economy chip, didnt give any better economy, so got most of money back and chip left on). I get about 50mpg (tho trip computer is 10% optimistic. Just went from factory 15 inch to 225.50.17 and have lost 5mpg again :( Tho speedo which was 10% out is now accurate, so dont think have actually lost so much mpg now. Grips so much better tho, could wheel spin easy before, even in dry, but grips a treat. Not that i am a boy racer ::)
Payload is 750kg, i did stick it on a weighbridge with all my kit in, and with 400 litres of water in my 650 litre upright tank i was dead on the limit front axle (before i got in) and 100kg to spare on rear. Should move tank back 6-12 inches really but prefer it up against bulkhead. Have 2 ten ton straps over, into the built in fixings, and one going left to right to minimise chance of it slipping on the platform i have to lift it up by couple of inches (helped flow to pumps). Most of my customers comment how smart the van looks (that was before sign writting done last week), and it is, the peugout expert/citroen despatch is bigger with better payload, but doesnt IMO look as smart. Overall i love this van, its powerful enough, even with up to 500 litres of water, looks the part, and so far is reliable. That being said, the dual mass flywheel is going (problem with VW's, my previous passat had the same, van has now done 60k, owned it for 2 years. Also got chrome light bars down the sides too....... :) Want to put bull bars and spots on but my good lady has a stop on that one....for now!

As you can see, enough space for leisure battery, collapsible ladder, and 2 hose reels in back, along with bucket and bollards. I have 2 5ft poles from gardiners that fit in fine, wouldnt mind 6 foot but would need to cut into cabin for that to fit. So all in all, very pleased. They arent cheap, but they are fairly high up in the quality/build, and you will get a better price when sell too.
What van did you get in the end, and you got pictures of your setup too?

.One of the side view of the tank up against bulkhead, was originally going for the 650 flat, but glad went for upright, makes more room!
one more pic coming......

flywheel always seems to be a problem with VW for some reason. Cracking looking and good workhorses.
-
Thanks mate, wanted eye catching, and think thats what i was given! Now just need to pay for it, not had any calls yet from the advertising!! Gonna stick a single fly wheel in next, similar price but alot stronger. Driveshaft needs doing first tho >:( then got to find the £750 been quoted for the clutch.
What van you end up with?
-
Hi mate vans looking good I've got the same van 1.9 tdi in silver do them chips save fuel or just make it faster??? Do you have aircon in this van?? Mine aircons well weird it has a mind of it's own and comes on when it want..
-
Cheers mate, yes it transformed it from what was already a tidy looking, although plain van. No air con on this, would have been nice but was lower down on the check list unfortunately. Lucky you! I havent got speed control either..... :( Tho got the nack of keeping it at 70MPH now!
As for the chipping, I do the exact same run, every day, up until recently with exactly the same amount of weight and speed. Always running out at max weight, or just over payload, returning 350kg lighter. 20 minutes of 70 mph motorway, and 18 mins of well moving A road. I have had plenty of opportunity to test it out before and after chipping. A bloke called Phil from ecopower-remaps in doncaster came down and did mine, £200 per car. I wanted an eco tune on the van, as I do about 450 miles per week. Due to the flywheel judder i cant put my foot right down in low gears, but I can categoricallly state that MPG hasn't changed. However, the performance certainly has, i can only imagine what the performance remap would give. It wasnt a bad van anway, and pulled well even in low revs before. I got 150 quid back, he thinks its due to the flywheel being on its way out, or possibly due to running at full weight (tho figures havent improved when empty (still nearly half payload due to equipment)). Only thing i would say to get accurate MPG is to fill up and check mileage, as both VWs ive had were 10% optimistic.
A local garage to me says they normally get very good mpg gains with their eco remaps on the VW's, so after xmas if can afford might give them a try out, they all offer money back if not happy anyway. Driveshaft first, then clutch. Then if im allowed bull bar and spots. Then another remap! lol...... thats why im selling my motorbike!
However, as a side point, this Phil also remapped a 208 Mitsubishi Outlander 2.2 for me, with their performance/eco remap, boosting it from 155bhp to about 185. This goes noticeably quicker also, yet i have now got gains of up to 20% on fuel, with mpg going from 31MPG if driving hard, to 37MPG, and if driving gently best i could get was 35/36MPG, now can get up to 44MPG. So certain maps, for certain cars can certainly improve economy, or, at very least, improve power and not loose economy.

Speed controller!!!! I'm not sure what this is mate what is it??
-
Dual Mass Flywheels are the scourge of the 21st Century and have been described as: "A solution to a problem that no one new existed." You can get a solid flywheel replacement for most applications now or you can spend £500-£1,000+ every 40-60,000 miles just replacing it.

Speed controller!!!! I'm not sure what this is mate what is it??
Soz, that was supposed to read cruise control! suppose its another way of saying it when your tired, lol
-
Oh right :D not got it on my van anyways.... The caddys are bullet proof apart from the normal wear n tear... This is my second caddy my last one had over 165k on the clock and never missed a beat
-
reckon 400 ltr tank in one of those be ideal.
