Forgot to post this other day another thread has reminded me.

had a phone call AM of yell to confirm my free listing, then PM phone call off yell:

To cut a long story short he says there will be no more free listings when the new book is published.

I know this was prob just the speil, ya can always tell when they going off a script cos you cant get a word in edge ways untill they get to the end of there script.

just thought id share that anyway

If Yell want to save themselves from oblivion they need to drastically lower their prices. A lot of people still use them, but in nothing like the numbers of days gone by.

The guy on The Apprentice was a complete tw*t! Apparently he was once worth a couple of million though. God knows how he managed that, but it doesn't come as much of a surprise that he lost it all.

Stopped advertising with yell year before last and haven't noticed any drop in sales.  Their rep phoned a few weeks back trying to tempt me back with a susposedly special deal - listing on yell.com etc. etc. - don't think so.  Anyways, couldn't believe how much they'd ramped their prices up considering this years book was going to A5 size with free entries being indexed at back of book.  From what I was told and understand - your 1/4 page ad is still a 1/4 page ad but because of the new book format, it will be 1/4 of the size.  Agree with Clinton reckon their days are numbered and lookin to make what they can while they can.

The thought behind stopping free listings in YP is easy

Why should someone get a free listing when other are paying for theirs.

I think its YP that is doing .... the bigger the advert, the nearer to the front of your section you go.

Sounds sense to me.
Look after those that pay more.

They really ARE quite right................it's about 7 years since I advertised with YP but I've had a trickle of work ever since FOR FREE.

Would you clean a carpet and keep going back for another 6 years without charging  ::) ::) ::)

Yellow Pages? Isn't that the 'brick' thing we use to hold a door open?

Haven't used them for three years and never looked back. Bad customer service, overcharge for ad space, don't put your ad where it's supposed to be and never admit they make mistakes. YP is consigned to history, don't waste yer money.
