Title: Van Insurance
Post by: TC1 on October 06, 2010, 08:28:37 pm
My van insurance is due for renewal at the end of the month and just wondering who people are using to get a good quote, I'm with Gladiator at the moment and my renewal is a tad high (£650) including nearly £100  to pay it monthly, thats 47% apr!!! >:(

Thanks,

Tony

Try the online sites Go Compare and Confused etc. usually find the best deals there.

Everyone keeps suggesting Alexander Swan because they provide a courtesy vehicle with a reach & wash in it.

Does anyone know if this covers you for a DIY install or do you have to have an Ionics system? Or at least a note saying your system is safely installed?

yeah mines due in november too, been paying about £400. not sure whether to get tpft and save a bit of money? knowing my luck i will write it off as soon as i do that though.

that legal protection is worth it though, someone crashed into me this year, and they took care of it for free, and i got £1250 personal injury within 3 months. so i would definitely recommend that.

i use gocompare for quotes

i try and pay in full for insurance now, they rip you off eitherwise with their apr!

will give alexander swan a call, but i reckon thats going to cost hell of a lot more!

anyone actually had to use their service?

Beware on Go Compare

I got a quote for £460 , then when i went back over my quote to make sure I had hit the right buttons, I found the WATER TANK BUTTON in modification, accessories.

Guess what, as soon as I pressed it, NOT ONE would insure me on that sight.

Thanks for that guys! :)

Dave, in your opinion if the water tank isn't bolted in ( only ratchet strapped in ) so can be removed easily, would you think this would be classed as a modification?

The water tank is a fixture rather than w load, so I would say you need to notify your insurance

I can't see the problem as long as you are within the van's payload, It's a van, made for carrying heavy loads strapped with the manufacturers anchor points!

I can only see it being an issue if you modify the van in any way! Or at least, that's how it should be! ;D

Mine's strapped in & I've never been asked about it or given the option to advise about it with Direct Line.

Alexander Swann were very expensive - but they do loan a van, they also wanted to know which manufacturer had fitted my system.

Other insurers wouldn't touch me when I mentioned I carried water.

Others wanted to know how many Litres I carried.

Went with one sure in the end, very reasonable.

They are linked to ionics but if your system is fitted by ionics, i bet it isn't as expensive as you have been quoted.

This insurance company is linked to Ionic; my advice for any window cleaners is to avoid this particular Insurance Company. They are doing everything they can to force window cleaners to pay more.

Definition of a modification depends on which insurance company you deal with.

As a rule a modification could be changing the standard specification engine/power or the appearance of the vehicle.

Bolting down a water tank does neither, although it is a modification its not one you should be penalised for. If necessary mention to the insurance company you are going to use the anchor points in the van and explain to them you want to have the system bolted down as well.

And will that help reduce the premium

they are an insurance broker, and how can they be forcing us to pay more when i cant find anyone cheaper???
