Title: Ph testing
Post by: garyhumphreys on October 05, 2010, 08:34:40 pm
Being honest  -  who does a ph Ph test on carpets they are working on.

Also, how do you know that you are getting an accurate reading of the Ph state of the carpet - surely the Ph of the local water will affect the reading.

I dont Ph test and thats exposed my ignorance! Thank you  So does that mean you do Ph test - but with distilled water ??

I know that pure water has pH 7, so still, freshly distilled water should have a pH of 7.0. However, interaction with the atmosphere allows carbon dioxide to dissolve into it, forming carbonic acid. As a result, agitating the water or allowing it to sit for a while will leave you with an aqueous solution that drifts down in pH. Because there are no natural buffers in distilled water, the pH can go down as low as 5.0.

Since the pH will obviously vary accross a room depending upon traffic and spills there wouldn't really seem a point to it unless you are in "showman" mode or if you are dealing with a specific issue and ou want to have a greater understanding of say a particular stain.

My thoughts also.
My interest stems from my suppliers who sell lots of Ph kits so I am thinking that maybe I am missing out by not using them.
I dont thin I am am though but would to be convinced otherwise.
