Title: BT Freephone Number. Is Landline Essential?

Is it compulsory to have a fixed landline package when you sign up for one of their free phone numbers?
Could you have the freephone number on a permanent divert to your mobile as a pose to having the number permanently linked to your landline and diverting it to a mobile using the *21* system when needed.
The divert costs would be added to mobile bill as a pose to landline bill. The freephone package would be paid for as normal through BT.

I just want a second opinion on this, as I think BT change the goal posts regularly to suit themselves.

You can get one from smart numbers directed to mobile, no landline needed that way

When i book a tradesman i always look for a local area code, all things being equal most people will use a local guy an area code indicates this.

I use Daisy PLC for my 0800 It goes straight to mobile so does not incurr 0800 charges plus divert charges.

Try voipfone . co . uk.  You can purchase a geographic landine number for about £2 per month and point them at your mobile.  I have two as I live in a rural area and so have now got landline numbers for both my local towns.  You also have to pay 12p per minute for incoming calls.  No need to miss any call, and if you do they just go to answer phone on your mobile and you can pick them up when it suits you.
