Hi Chaps,
Need some advice please. Been to look at a house with lots of blood on carpets as you will see from the pic's. I have only cleaned up the odd spot before so am after your thoughts. To be honest not sure if I really want to do it as it made my stomach turn a little :-X.
Question is what method of cleaning and would you charge more because of health and safety etc ??? Carpet is 80/20
Oh and you probably want to know the story..... well the chap caught his head on the garage door and knocked himself out :o when waking up he was still quite grogy and walked into the house and proceded to decorate the place red ;D

I had a job recently that made this look like a mild nosebleed!
Guy had severed a main artery in his arm after putting his arm through a window and his carpets were absolutely swimming in blood.
Believe it or not, the blood came out using Prochem stain pro and plenty of heat. Much to my surprise I have to add.

I did a blood job where the woman had stood on a broken wine glass... I turn those sort of jobs down now.....

Well stain pro is what I have used before on spots and has always worked but as these are more than spots thought something else might be better?
In two minds really as it did make me feel a little uneasy and I only have his story about the garage to go on maybe he is trying to cover something up :-X lol

Stain pro works well or in the past have used salty water which works to good effect, make sure you wear PPE although there are others more clued up than me on that, and make sure you sanitise all your equipment after, charging extra for that of course ;)

Glad it all came out but you do not use heat with blood, you need to use cold water.
Protein will congeal under heat and this will get stuck in your machine and makes it harder to get out of the carpet.

I would reccomend not to use heat on blood as it can quite often set the stain, cold water is the answer with whatever solution you use, and one more point blood has a very nasty habit of wicking back.

I shall bear that in mind for the future. I can't remember how much heat I used on the job in question. It wasn't excessive or anything.

Try some full fat milk. Not to much, leave it dwell for 5 mins gently agitate and rinse.
Repeat as necessary..
-
I would apply some Nemesis or Mpower and allow a dwell of 15 mins then rinse then apply stain pro then rinse.
Also good is rust remover.

Its a messy job and its the cleaning the machine and pipes and hand tool after mate..It prob will also wick back fro the underlay too..

Thanks for your words of wisdom gents I think I will go with my gut feeling on this and leave alone. Even charging a little extra doesn't swing it in favour so will happily pass this to someone else.
Cheers ;D

People make things more complicated than they need be. Use common sense; rubber gloves, as many have said youdo not put hot wate on blood. A mixture of salted cold water will easily disolve the blood and it is just a matter of flushing vigourously with this mixture. If there is any staining (normally where people have tried their own removal methods, then these can be removed using a rust remover, (it does not usually require a strong one the prochem product is normally sufficient). Then rinse the machine out, empty and mix a solution of microsan or similar and suck it through your machine to sanitise tool, pipe and machine. It is not that complicated and if you are not able to do this you will not make much of a carpet cleaner.

Peter,
What's with the last line!!!
Yes I agree it's not rocket science. I posted the topic to get opinions and advice and not to be put down >:( It's not a case of not being able to do it, if you read the post properly you will see I also posted the blood made me feel uneasy and ultimately that's why I won't be doing it. I take comments like yours like water off a ducks back but others on here especially newbies might not so perhaps in future you really should think before you post ::)
Must be a chore being perfect ;D
