Was covering for the wife this eve, hoovering at one of her contracts, just to take some pressure off for her,Started at 4 pm,6 pm phone rings, just let it ring as diary in van,and couldn`t be arsed to go get it,between 6 and 7.30 pm 5 missed calls from same number,1 voice mail, where he just put phone down, and another voice mail where he left details, then phone rings again on way home,so i answer, and say call back in half hour.;8.15 he calls again, said he spoke to me this morning,er no you didn`t..
Turns out he has spilt red candle wax,on his beige wool carpet, about 1 m long by inch wide,he has put something on it that a neighbour gave him, didn`t know what it was ?
Could i do anything and how much !!
Explained to him that what he put ion it may have contained a bleaching agent, and it may bleach when i extract it,oh no it didn`t have bleach in it !!
But you don`t know what it was !!
So told him i would charge him £32,as he was only down the road,he said he will speak to the wife and call back !!
Half 8 he calls and says am i insured, here we go,no i am not,oh but what if you bleach the carpet,i said if the carpet has been bleached it`s more than likely you have already done that,oh the stuff we used was called Charlie spotter,we scrubbed it with water, and used loads of the stuff, but we can still see a feint pink line when the sun is out.
Just told him to call someone else and put the phone down..numpty

Unfortunately they want you to fix their problem for next to nothing, that's people! it's probably a cost that he wasn't able to stomach as it takes away from his 'pot of money' that's why customers reach for under the kitchen sink first as in all honesty getting a professional out will cost them dear where a bottle of something just may work and cost nothing.

Yes sir, I can certainly call out and attempt to remove it for you , if I do not succeed , then I will write a report for your insurer , which they will accept as proof that the mark is not possible to remove , for this I will charge £65 , which your insurer will probably knock off your excess. What time do you want me there ?
That speech works most times , spend 30 mins attempting removal , measure the carpet , get value , take a few pics , 10 mins in the office and the report is done, easy money, and you have given a professional service.

I get the feeling Mark has said this to deter the gentleman in question....

In a case like this I tell them that the item is already worthless , so whether I am going to make furthur damage is irrelevant.

Don`t wanna hex myself, but since starting in 2004 i have never had a problem that i could not resolve, with help from the guy`s on here.
Have only ever had 4 or 5 call backs,in that time also.

Indeed i did,he was a twit,i explained that wax being hot and pink was probably set with the heat, then the fact he said he scrubbed it with water, and then he was umming and arring about the £32.50 i said i would charge him, thought it best if he called someone else, before i started to get irate with him.
Jasonl that is what i have done for people in the past, and they have always been happy,i don`t think this bloke would have been happy if i had offered him the moon on a stick.add to that the fact that he said it can only be seen when the sun is out,we have not had any sun here for a few days,so why call me like a stalker after 6 pm

Hahaha, "Moon on a Stick!" Haven't heard that for a while ;D ;D ;D
-
Moon stick! Some jobs just aren't worth doing. People want miracles and if you can't fix a problem they created, it's your fault! ;D

i'll try and remember this thread when a customer calls with similar situation. i end up feeling too guilty by not helping them and get suckered into doing something i wish i hadn't.
-
It's always the way, walking the fine line that is good customer service. Some people are just so insatiable even if you try your best and do everything over and above the call of duty they can't be pleased. But it's a good job there are plenty of people out there that do appreciate good service and don't want something for nothing

Polar opposite, prior custy called me on Thurs, her husband had swept the chimney in their lounge, and knocked the Nilfisc over, catches came undone, and spilt soot everywhere,as she was a prior custy she knew about all the dangers of vanish etc,i tell all my custy`s to steer clear, what they did do is hold the vac just above the carpet, and sucked the soot up,and that is all they did.
Explained about carbon etc,and sticky soot, but i knew her carpet was a decent expensive man made fibre job,so i knew in the back of my mind i would get it out.
Just used Multi pro, with a gentle rub over the bad bit`s with a brush, put on a bit of a display ;D
Got every single mark out,she was over the moon, paid me my £65.and gave me £5 tip for a drink,i was running a bit late,as agency called me wanting to do a flood damage job,so i called her and explained, she was fine and happy that i called her,she also commented on how polite i was ;D
End the week on a high note !!
