The mystery deepens.
Who is Rg1 and why is he on my patch? :) .
I'm in West Green. I find much of Crawley is no-go for me due to the high number of terraced houses without any back allies or gates (only access through the house). There are quite a few properties (mainly in the newer parts) that do have reasonable access though. It didn't help when the resident parking restrictions were introduced a few years ago in some areas. Although I do have a permit for the parking zone area where I live, this doesn't help much in zones other than zone A (West Green). Until recently the wardens were fine with you cleaning without a parking permit. However, be warned, now the parking fines are run by a private company rather than the police so it is much easier to get ticketed. If I were to get a ticket, I would try to argue that I was unloading (water). Doubt it would get me anywhere but always worth a try.
Years ago I decided that I was better off going out of town for much of my work.

Paul, I am in Ifield or Ifield West to be precise which is where some of my work is. The name of the business is Free 2 Flow. I have other work in Pound Hill, 3 Bridges, Gossops Green and Ifield Green. No problems with parking zones either, I am able to park on custys drives normally. Where they don't have a drive, there are no parking restrictions anyway.

Parking restrictions are fine in the areas you mention - with the possible exception of parts of Three Bridges. it seems to be mainly within a mile of the town centre and around the Three Bridges station areas. I do have customers in Crawley but tend to avoid the old council estate areas. Nothing to do with snobbery. It's about accessing the backs of houses.

Yes, there are a lot of terraced properties without rear access. I have thought about doing them but undecided as to whether it's worth it or not.
