Hi All,
I currently run a successful window cleaning business but am looking at employing someone to work with me and set up an oven cleaning business too esppecially to get some work done on rainy days like today, I would be very grateful if anyone could advise me on who is best to go to for training as i feel that the franchises (ovenu and ovenclean) look so expensive for starting up. I am in the North Lincolnshire area and would welcome any suggestions you may have or recommendations you may have about getting started!
thanks in advance

Hi Dave
Well training is always a good idea. Got to be honest I never had training in the Oven cleaning department.
We clean lots of Ovens both residential and commercial.
Get your self a dip tanks, I would not say its actually required to be a heated one as I don't use a heated one myself.
They start at about £550 for a heated one.
Get some good gloves, a torch so you can see in the Oven, a couple of scrappers, some wire wool, metal scourers and a glass scrapper.
Get some good professional oven cleaner. Not out of Sainsburys.
Probably best advice I could give you f you don't go for training learn how to take off the Oven door and removal of the glass. Ovens have several types of hinges. But once you mastered this removing the door is easy.
The scary part is probably cleaning the top of the oven where the grill element is. The removes easily from most but not all ovens by two philip screws and a clip. Some times to remove the grill the oven needs to be removed as the screws are at the back where you cant get to. In this case you have to work around and in between the grill.
Other tip make sure you wash out the oven and remove the oven cleaner residue. Professional oven cleaner can be toxic and contaminate food
Hope it helps

thanks for the advice, I would still probably go for a few days training, yes would def get a heated dip tank as after reading other posts it seems to save a lot of time and work. do you (or anyone else) know of any small firms who offer on the job training at a reasonable rate, found some on internet but they look quite expensive! thanks for your advice pristine

The only problem with this is how can you make sure you only clean ovens on rainy days? You can't make a list of clients and then just go and see them when it rains?

just thought if i was to build up some custom i might be able to ring a customer who is booked in that week and see if i could go on the rainy day instead, (maybe even offer incentive to do so). also during winter once it gets past 3pm you cant clean many windows once it starts getting dark or if its to cold some days are to cold to clean windows due to freezing up. I'd rather be trying to work or get work in bad weather rather than sit doing nothing.
