Title: commercial only
Post by: mark311069 on September 25, 2010, 07:40:16 pm
hi guys anybody only do commercial window cleaning?  i ask as iam getting fed up with domestic cleaning, jumping fences. collecting, etc etc. so thinking of selling my domestic round and cocentrating on my commercial work, i also have a large gutter cleaning contract which i struggle to find time to do. dont really want to employ somebody do clean the domestics.

I would willingly swap my commercial work for domestic,   yes commercial pays better but with domestic you can built a good working relationship with the customer and they are more likely to stay loyal to you.

you can also build a good relationship with commercial but as soon as someone cheaper comes along no matter what your out.

I have an £850 monthly commercial clean which is great but its a large private estate and when something is going on there I am not allowed to come and clean and this was made clear to me when I did the quote,  well in April and may they had guests and film crews so I lost out on 2 months worth of cleans ( £1700 )  and as a small business thats very had to absorb,    same thing in August ( £850 )

when you lose a domestic its not hard to replace and its easy to absorb

yes commercial is great when it goes well but domestic is bread and butter and I wiould much rather fill my order books up withh domestic,  believe me the grass isn't always greener on the other side,  especially when you can wait up to 3-4 months before you get paid of some jobs.

ive got a few smallish commercial but mostly compact domestic and bigger country houses.

most of my commercial pay in cash or cheque on the day.i love my domestic round.nice and loyal customers/great cashflow and a lot less likely to lose work.

i wouldnt mind the odd bigger commercial but im more than happy to pick up churches/large stand alone country houses etc!! ;) ;D ;D

although you commercial  only window cleaners must be pulling in 40-50 grand a year eh? :D :D

No domestic all commercial

Just as domestic rounds you have to pick the "good" clients

Work all weathers paid 30days or they get fined, offer highest levels of service so don't lose any on price

Good clients can't be bothered changing suppliers to save a couple of quid, not if they have a reliable service

You guys stick with the domestics and leave the rich commercial pickings to the likes of us

Gordon

 Marc
Ihave been mostly commercial for many years except for 20 or so large detached houses that i treat as commercial given an invoice and such.

Times are changing though commercial is often cheaper than domestic and as has been said cashflow is a nightmare at least 30 days. iam still waiting for monies from 6 months ago.

for that reason iam taking on houses again so going the opposite way!

  cheers

  john

we are a good 70% commercial.

i wouldnt put all your eggs in one basket mate, with more and more commercail contracts going to national rather than local ....

i think its nice to have a mix of both...

i see what you are saying with the domestic annoying stuff but if you set good ground rules from day one with the customers it will help alot - for example:

you will phone the night before

they will leave the gate open if not in ...

they will leave the money out in an agreed place.

may take a while for them to get into that routine but once they do - its easy when you phone up:

hi its the window cleaner, we are calling 2moz to do your monthly clean

customer ok - ill leave the gate open and put the money out as normal.

We are mainly domestic, 3 internal offices, one nursing home and a car dealership - all seem to pay fine. Not interested in more commercial because as lots have already said if you're under cut you are out. The ones we have are priced pretty low to be honest. We lost one last year than Alan had been cleaning for 19 years - letter appeared in the post - no warning.

Our commercial work has been dwindling away, gone to the big national companies, we are taking on more domestic at the moment ::)
