as above.
one of the vans coming upto 49k on the clock ....
-
Usually 5 years or 60k. But early doesn't hurt. Stick one on and you have 5 years peace of mind. They do occasionally fail early.
Alfa romeo 147 and 156 need em doing at 36k but i guess your van isn't one of those.

what sort of cost do you think?

A cam belt can deteriorate with age, so a vehicle that covers less mileage annually may still need a change even though it's only done 49k
-
sorry i should of said its a 57 plate, did a fair few at first but now it will be used by one of my part timers - so prob around 5 - 6k miles a year. just local area aswell
-
Had one put on Hi-Ace a few months back cost £180 including tensioner pulley. far cheaper than another engine.
-
My hiace cam cost just under 200. but many engines you looking at 400. A cambelt service is the biggy. With the service 500 plus should be expected. Unless you get a hiace.
-
my trafic cam belt snapped im jus
getting over it nowmega bucks ;D
-
i have the vivaro 2.0cdti 57 plate and thats a chain not a belt.

depends what van it is, my transit connect is 10 years or 150,000 miles, worth ringing your local dealer and ask them when its due
-

-
doblo was 50k but if it fails might as well scrap it ;)

Perhaps you should look in the service book. Otherwise, you'll be basing your decsion on the guesses of window cleaners..

shouldve had mine done 1 mile before it snapped! end of transit hello sprinter (chain ).
Now whenever i change a vehicle i try to allow for a belt change as part of my budget
-
i always get the cambelt changed on all vans/cars that i buy within the first month or so.mind you i only ever buy 10 year old vans/cars and they usually last me 4 or 5 years with the odd job needing doing to keep them on the road!! ;) ;D ;D

Phone the dealer and ask for the service department. Give them the registration (which will be on their database). Then they'll know the exact model and they'll be able to tell you when the cambelt is due. Some vehicles it's 40,000, some it's 60,000, some it's 80,000, etc, etc. Get it wrong and you'll pay heavily.
Or just ask a bloke down the pub.
