Title: smashed windows
Post by: darren clarke on September 18, 2010, 09:09:25 pm
how do i stand over a smashed window and a custy refusing to pay,  basically cleaned a window and didnt call back for the money as was busy this is nothing unusual as often collect 2 or 3 times at once,  ran in to the custy to night accussed me of smashing her window, said aint paying me and has been slagging me off all around town saying i smashed her windows, which might account for why i have lost a few custys

asked her y she didnt phone me, said i was waiting for you to come back, asked why didnt go to the police then,  all there answer was  it just seems funny u never called back for your money and therefore i must be guilty

aint bothered about the money  just sick of being slagged off

but if you did smash the window you should pay for it,         I cracked a window a couple of months ago and made the customer aware of it and had it replaced.

why not offer to pay for it and win her back

I dont think he smashed it i think the customer is trying to cancel and is using this as an excuse.

how long have you been cleaning that house?  whats your gut feeling ?

a little while ago on my round i see a new bullet hole on an upper window-i said nothing and  in my case i think they had already seen it .  at another house i noticed a grey dust on the glass, later heard it was a fingerprint powder used by the police, somebody had tried and failed to get in .this was a high window, big drop

i have cleaned her windows for 18 months and the only things i have smashed is 2 pot plants on other jobs, and have replaced them,  if i smash a window i will pay for it, i dont mind that,  as i cant see how i can smash a window with cold water and a brush head,  if it was winter with hot water  might of done it, but i dont have a hot water system,

this has really annoyed me,  i know the women outside of doing her windows, yet never had a problem in 18 months,

Was it a double glazed unit? If so then very very unlikely you smashed it.

all double glazed units, only about 2 years old the house,   this has just really annoyed me, i think what has annoyed me more is they have bothered contacting me for 5 weeks to ask me about it, then starts having a go at me in the street over it

When you next see her tell her if you would of smashed her window you would of known about it ,informed the her and sorted the damage out .....also tell this to any other customer who may bring it up if shes blabbed it about...stick up for yersen ;) ;)  then all you can do is forget about her and move on ;)

You say "smashed" also stated  its a double glazed unit, I'd be surprised it would just smash, unless a house brick was lobbed through it, do you think they mean "cracked"?

You'd be wise just to go and see it for yourself

Out of interest, why did you not go back to get paid earlier?

to be honest i forgot i had done the job, as it was done at the end of a day with 2 other jobs,  which i brought forward from the week before, when i went collecting on the saturday i wasnt in the area i was over 8 miles away, but when i remembered i didnt think it would of been a problem, as some times she isnt in and always catch up with them,  went back a few days later but was no one in, and when ever i have been back there has been no one in and no car, so thought they had gone away so left it till next time,

i didnt smash the window, thats the most annoying part
