Evening guys/gals I am going to work away for a few days and need some ideas on how to keep my truckmount warm as i wont be able to plug my radiator(via electric cable to house)in as usual.Any ideas welcome.Regards Alan(swindon)
-
I wrap it in a quilt but i dont think this is enough
-
When are you going as it's not really cold yet?
-
Morning Dave I will be working with my friend in Portsmouth in the next few months where i dont have access to parking so it will be an ongoing thing. What i need is something like a rechargeable battery i can plug the heater into at night.Regards Alan
-
What you really need is a Webasto or a Eberspacher diesel night heater, these run off your van's fuel tank and 12 v.
Very effective but not cheap. But you can use them anywhere including whilst travelling.
-
Thanks for that Glynn I just looked and can only find £642 cheapest so far unless anyone else knows of cheaper.Regards Alan
-
We had one supplied & fitted for about that price at Leyland Auto Electrical & Diesel in Preston Lancs.
At the time they were the cheapest anywhere.

this may help

Thanks for that Mallie seems a good system just trying to find something even if only temporary that doesnt cost quite so much even if i have to trickle charge it through the day to power the heater at night.Regards Alan

i just got a quote from shorts auto electrical £1000 + vat to supply and fit an erberspacher in my van , i do'nt really want to spend that sort of money to heat my van for maybe a dozen nights in the winter (thats about £90 a night) but i cant see that i have much choice if i want to keep my equipment safe from freezing
-
£640 = peanuts compared to a new heat exchanger, pump, hoses, fittings, loss of work, etc etc.
-
would one of these be safe enough to put in your van ?

Maybe rent a garage as they can be a blessing if you havent got one next to your house..
-
i was renting a garage from a lady my wife was cleaning for and it was only £30 pm but sadly she died recently and as her house is up for sale i have had to empty it.

I'm picking up a 1994 smiley front Transit for £700 on Sunday with an Eberspacher already fitted and in working order. Hopefully I can take the heater off it myself and sell the van on for the same money - if not a touch more.
£200 odd quid to have it fitted on my current van apparently so I should be laughing. Yes it's a bit of agg but should save myself a few quid.
Might be worth sifting through the Autotrader edge2edge.

Dave,
I had a 2nd hand one fitted to my van, as I was quoted £800 plus vat for a new one supplied, fitted plumbed in etc etc.
It cost £250 cash, took it to a few mechanics local to me who all said 'no idea mate' in the end a electrical sparky was recommended to me. He fitted it but there are spare wires every where, its not regular, we couldnt work out the timer, how to set it, either temp, timer or what ever as it was digital
They wouldnt help us at the Eberspacher place on the phone, well why would they?
Last year with the big freeze I felt safer with an office type gas fire in there once I realise it had a gastec carbon cut out on it.
Went to the Eberspacher place in the end, it needs a new 'brain' £200.00 also you mate has fitted it illegally there is no vent for it to breathe clean air in and the exhaust has fallen off so it blows exhaust into the van.
Though they said bring it back we will set it up, show you how to use the timer etc etc and make it legal. Oh and your not supposed to have the fuel in a loose can in the back it has to be plumbed into your main diesel tank.
Shall I go on Dave, if I had gone to Eber and paid I would have peace of mind, reliability, warm van, frost free kit, not get up at 3 or 4 to look out of the bedroom window to see if the van is frost free or frozen.
That £200 might be cheap now, but if it goes wrong you will be paying again and again. In more ways than 1.

The Father In Law and I whipped it off this afternoon Murk, looks pretty straight forward........to him anyway! He's fitting it on Tuesday.
Came with instructions but can see how it would be confusing with only two little buttons to work it.
I shall let you know how it goes...only thing that might pee me off is the noise, itll be right outside my bedroom window and sounds like a little jet taking off.

3 months on and my kit is still all toastie in the mornings. Now all I need is a snow plough. Had a pish poor start to December but have rammed shedloads of work in between now and Friday, now I'm looking out of the window tonight wondering if I'll get to these effin jobs. ::) Even more snow coming in on Thursday apparently.

If you can insulate the inside of your van roof it will make a massive difference
-
If you only want something temporary then why not try a paraffin green house heater.
-
when i go away this time of year i take out hoses wands etc , cover the truckmount in a duvet and winterise the tm but putting anti freeze trough the system.
-
If anybody needs a cost effective way to insulate a van roof, I suggest celotex board. You can cut it with a stanley knife and stick it straight to the metal using a glue called Wet Grab - comes in a tube for a few quid from b&q and it's not affected by condensation etc. Scudo sized van roof insulated for around 20 quid. :)
-
propex heatsource 2000 will do the
trick ;)
-
It will cost £10 Allen to protect your machine while your away give me a call mate
