Title: Employees using own vehicles
Post by: Jenny1 on September 16, 2010, 03:13:11 pm
Hi,

I've recently taken on a couple of part-time staff, who will be using their own vehicles for domestic work.  Is it my responsibility to ensure that they are insured for business use?  I also read somewhere that I need a commercial insurance policy to cover employees using their own vehicles but am slightly confused...is this right?

Thanks

It is their responsibility to advise their own insurance that they will be using their vehicle for travelling to and from various places of work. It is also best for them to mention that they will (if they will) be carrying equipment.

For your part, you can advise them to do this.

Commercial vehicle insurance is for company owned vehicles. These tend to be to cover any driver over a certain age, usually 25.
