can anyone recomend a good van insurance, i have just been sent a renewal cost and they have nearly tripled the price even though i have had no accidents the secretary rang to queery the amount and they said it was due to having a water tank in van she told them they knew that when they insured us last year but thety said most insurers wont touch vans with tanks any more and that is why the increase, last year it was £520 this year they want £1380 has anyone else had this problem yet.

Trevor,
I got a renewal price of £390 for a Vaux Combo off A Plan.
Exact same policy off Churchill got quoted £236.
They were fine with a water tank in the back

I hope you got that actually in the policy wording and not just a "yeah yeah" from some guy on the other end of the phone, because this is actually a vehicle modification, and as a rule if its not stated in black and white on the policy document, then the cover is invalid.

try stephen ayre at G.T.Insurance, very helpful and very competetive, not long since re done my van insurance with him and when other vans are due i will certainly be getting another qute from him 1st,
just ask for stephen and if you say george gave you the number i would appreciate it - even if you only get a quote, number is 0115 9394747
cheers george

try autonet.most insurance companies bump up the price after the first year as they rely on you being lazy and just renewing it.i change mine every year to get the cheapest price.

Give this branch of A-plan a ring and ask for Adam Baxter ( A-plan 01993 841841 ) and tell him Darren Charman recommened you and you should get an even better quote....
Thanks
Darren

a plan or commercial veichle direct Trevor, I use them both.
Both know about the wfp tank in the back.
people that use wfp and go on sites like go compare ect are not insured correctly as all insurance quotes have to go to an underwriter if there is a water tank inside the van.
insurance companies are very limited most do not like tanks over 400 some 500 hundred. there are no main stream companies that advertise on tv offering cover for wfp that I can find ::).

A-plan also ;D

Got mine thro Direct Choice £189 fully comp

I have a toyota 55 hiace 4 years no claim. Includes all system in the van.
£364 with Aplan :)
-
a lot of you have recomended A plan and that is the firm i am currently with so when you do get your renewels expect a sharp increase in your qoute, i have finally got a decent qoute of stephen who george p recomended so many thanks george the qoute hes given me is £599 and includes cover of £6000 for the hot system in the vehicle.
-
i said this i while ago, many dont realise but there insurane is invalid has it has to learly state it has a modifiation in the van(water tank)

do you have a small tank Bob ?
I have full no claims over 7 years with a plan on that van, with a 650l tank clean as a whistle liecence, and costs far more than that price :-\
p.s Ronnie I have been say the same thing now for years, people just either dont think or think they are clever, both being wrong
-
I use commercial vehicle direct...... now they gave me a fantastic quote, a chatted to the lady and she confesed they then use, " highway insurance co"
so i rang them , and they gave me a quote 80 quid cheaper,....
so i rung my insurer back, and they matched it, ...... i did this a couple of times and got it down by 150 quid. !....
But highway are by far the cheapest, for fully comp, legal cover and r.a.c cover.
try them.

glad you got a good quote trevor, so far hes insured van, car and house insurance, when other vans due i will go to him first as up to now its always been good, george p

Ronnie...
at what point does it change from "goods carried" to a "modification"
Builders carry pallets of bricks/blocks, cement mixers and all sorts of heavy plant in their vans so whats the difference ???
-
i believe its because when tank is in back of van it becomes a permanent fixture and also they do like to find excuses for more costs ;D
-
More than likely George, but I can get my tank out in 10 mins so hardly a permanent fixture :(

My renewal quote is £364 starting next week. No sharp increase, only a £30 odd discount from last year ???
